Resumo
All of the girls at his college love Suou Tsukasa and come up to talk to him on a daily basis. Unfortunately for them, Tsukasa hates girls that are straightforward like that but is too nice of a guy to tell them that. In fact, he has a crush on Kizaki Megumu, his classmate and one of the shy and least talkative girls. The professor in one of the classes they have together is Dr. Hime, a young teacher whose childish looks and short height makes her a target for her students to jokingly tease and treat her more like their friend rather than a professor. After taking home the drunk Ms. Hime who was served lots of alcohol by her students, Tsukasa learns a giant secret about her love life.

Sexless Friend review

I really liked this manga series, until I reached the end. I won't write an extremely long-winded review, but I would like to preface this by saying that I only just finished reading Sexless Friend about an hour ago, so my review may not be entirely impartial. There will also be a paragraph with spoilers in it where appropriate, so you have been warned.

---Story--- 7/10

I liked the story, it had a good premise and it worked well. My main complaints with the story is that; a) it was too short, and b) I didn't like the ending. I will go more into detail on the ending in a spoiler paragraph. As for the length, it felt like the manga would have benefited from being at least 10 chapters or so longer, and I think that the shortness of the series hurt the story overall.

**spoilers for the ending -- YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED**

Let me just say this, I reeeeeally did not like the ending. This is just personal preference, but it's just that I think that he ended up with the wrong girl. Of all the characters, Kizaki was one of the least developed characters. She almost felt like a side character more than a main character. I also didn't like how after being confessed to, she freaks out and actually says "I hate you" and "I can't accept your love" , then she just does a COMPLETE 180 degree turn. We also didn't even get to see her reply to his confession, we just assumed that she said yes because in the last chapter they are together at the school.

It was one of those endings that make you go, "Really? That's it? What about..."

That's about it, other than that I liked the story.

**end of spoliers**

---Art--- 8/10

The art was pretty good, and it had some really good scenes. However, it wasn't anything AMAZING. Not too much to comment on.

---Characters--- 9/10

If there is anything that they did well in this manga it's the characters. I feel like I really know the main protagonist and the other main characters. Kakei Hidetaka also did a really good job of creating tense situations, and awkward encounters.

---Enjoyment--- 8/10

The ending aside, I rather enjoyed the first 13 chapters. Not too much to talk about here.

---Overall--- 7/10

Although I really enjoyed it and I loved what the Kakei Hidetaka was able to do with his characters, the ending is really holding back my overall score of this manga. It was definitely a good read and I would recommend that everyone should read it, but it's not for everyone and the ending was unsatisfactory (in my opinion, others will likely disagree with me).

---------------------------------

I normally don't write reviews, but since this seems to be lacking anything resembling an impartial review (the only other review is a fanboy jizzing all over himself, giving the manga an overall "1000000/1" score).

Please don't give this review a "not helpful" rating just because you disagree with my assessment, give it if you genuinely think that my analysis was unfair and/or biased.

So can I just say one thing here, ‘Oh god the triangle of romance.’ This manga seriously had twists and turns that made the little fan girl in me swoon a bit in that it is about two people who seem to be fighting to not be seen as homosexual all because of the feelings they had for people of the same gender. I know, confusing right? Well that was what I felt trying to piece it all together. Basic idea, Tsukasa liked a guy he was somewhat rivals with; his teacher had a crush on her upper classmen though both say it’s not in that way. Now they both have a person of the opposite gender that they want to be with, though because of past experiences, they are scared. So what is the normal response to get over the phobia with someone that has the same phobia? Let’s do it together and act as a couple! Ya… it made very little sense for me too.

The two of them get together to try and combat each other’s ‘phobia’s’ but seriously, it’s a rather cliché idea for a story, one you would probably figure out the ending to. And hence the name ‘Sexless Friend’ comes into play in the story because they want to make sure that it’s without sex. Of course, since it is an Ecchi, we have a whole manner of images pertaining to sex even if they aren’t doing it for real. You know; nude images that go through the perverted mind of a guy. And because of how the relationship is kept secret, we have the problem of people misunderstanding what is going on outside the relationship. I want to say it’s a lot like Please Teacher in that respect. Hell, it’s like a lot of shows and manga that have that same sort of story line. Although I do have to laugh at the comedy, it does get a little to predictable that I wish they did something else.

Now on the other side of the spectrum, the ending was a bit surprising and was not that predictable. The ending made me laugh at how I thought it was going to end up because you wouldn’t be able to figure it out without reading it. It was short but I feel just right as they didn’t let the jokes become old and stale. They kept feeling slightly refreshing to read even though you knew what was going to happen in each scenario except the ending.

The artwork is rather good looking except the fact that the mail character doesn’t seem to look like he would be the most popular boy. I don’t see what’s so great about him that all the girls have themselves going gaga and calling him prince. He looks like an average guy compared to the rest of the guys in the show. His personality doesn’t seem to stand out; he’s just a nice guy. So why is he so popular? The shading with the pantones and lines are really nice, everything is super detailed in that aspect down to the slightest little detail but I have to wonder if it really needed that much work. It’s wonder, I can’t stop that, but some of the tiny detail didn’t need to be shaded to the max. I won’t faultier it though as I like when they put time into the artwork. The design for their teacher is pretty much like a child who makes me wonder why people are so into manga with a character that looks like a loli child as a teacher rather then an adult.

A guy afraid of girls, and a girl afraid of guys. To remove this fear lets go out together in secret?

Story:
I liked the concept. A guy and girl who need to overcome their fear for the other gender, so to do this they go out with each other but this is a "sexless" friendship. the story is also filled with a few holes that don't get filled as the manga progresses. I personally liked this concept but looking at it its not very good one. (7)

Art:
It was ok. The art was well drawn and not lazy or rushed. But there are some boob grabbing, naked scenes, and erotic fantasies. This exists throughout the series and gives the impression it is almost a hentie. So i disliked this very much as it took away from the story and made it less readable. (7)

Characters:
It was 50/50 on good and bad. The two main characters that go out with each other are developed well through the manga. Though they aren't looked back enough and are left to be somewhat hollow. The main problem is that they are under developed. While this may be the case, the main characters are still made well enough to enjoy them. (6)

Enjoyment:
Without going into to much detail i want to go over everything i disliked from this manga. Firstly it was on the edge of being hentie, there uncensored breasts and plenty of boob grabs. There are also a few dirty jokes like seeing up a skirt, and people enjoying sex in a room next to where are main characters are. Another is that it has a very bad ending where the main character ends up with the wrong girl, even though this was expected to happen though to the story's concept, it is a wrong decision that make for a bad ending, adding salt to the injury the girl the main guy falls with is underdeveloped and adds to the disappointing ending. If she was more developed than the ending would have been more accepting. I did though enjoy the story up to that point, to a certain extent. (6)

Sexless friend has an interesting concept. The story itself didn't end liked i wanted it to or how it should have ended due to under developed characters and story. There is almost too much profanity to enjoy the story itself, unlike Great Teacher Onizuka where perverted jokes only go so far so that it is funny yet not to much that it disturbs the reading. So i feel happy to give it 5/10. It did all the rights things wrong, and threw in perverted scenes to make men interested in a bad manga. Atleast i can say that they didn't used stereotypical big boobed women. That being said i won't be reading this again.

Thank you: and,
Live long and prosper under the light of the sun.
