Overall 9/10

Steel Ball Run is the Seventh Part of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and the first to be written for Ultra Jump after Hirohiko Araki left Shonen Jump. This Part is greatly considered Araki’s greatest work and one of the greatest Shonen stories, it currently ranks at #2 on MyAnimeList’s Manga Ranking. Though I agree that SBR is one of the best parts of JJBA, I personally prefer Part 5: Vento Auero more. I’ll discuss why I don’t think it’s perfect in the review

Story
This Story is great, I would personally consider the story the best that Araki has ever written and the greatest story I have experienced so far. SBR starts off as a simple story about our Protagonist, Johnny Joestar entering the Steel Ball Run, a race across all of America, in order to learn about the mysterious spin that caused his legs to work for the first time in years. However it is soon revealed that the Race is merely a cover-up for the 23rd President of America, Funny Valentine, to gather parts of the corpse of Jesus Christ in order to make America the strongest nation on Earth. Along the way, Johnny is taught the Spin by Gyro Zeppeli a little at a time, ultimately able to harness the Infinite Rotation.

However, I have two major issues with this story, one much more important than the other. My first complaint is the death of Hot Pants, an important character who appears multiple times throughout the part to both help and hinder Johnny and Gyro. A character like hers would’ve gotten more of a send-off in the earlier parts such as Noriaki Kakyoin’s death where a lot of time is devoted to his last moments. Hot Pants doesn’t get that, she merely reacts to Funny Valentine’s Love Train ability and is presumably killed by her own attack going into her heart, it’s a very unsatisfying way to kill one of the main characters.

My Second Complaint is the final arc, High Voltage. I believe if Steel Ball Run ended with Johnny solemnly riding his horse away, only to find the race had already finished, this part would be my favourite. Instead they decided to bring back Johnny Joestar’s Rival, Diego Brando who was killed earlier in the story by Funny Valentine. They do this by saying Funny Valentine had taken Diego from an alternate universe before his death. Perhaps I was missing something but there was no real way this could’ve happened because the timing makes no sense, Alternate World Diego must’ve been hiding on the train OUR Diego was fighting Funny Valentine on, which doesn’t make sense as the two would’ve violently have been killed as we see with Wekapipo during the first appearance of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. But putting all that aside, we see that Alternate World Diego has The World, DIO’s stand from Part 3. I believe this was one of the stupidest reveals as it felt like pure and utter fanservice for an earlier Villian. Alternate World Diego then easily defeats Johnny Joestar before going to hide the Corpse Parts so nobody else could use their power. Lucy Steel intervenes at the last second by giving AW Diego our world’s Diego’s head, despite the fact he was cut in half with his head intact. This causes AW Diego to violently explode just like Wekapipo earlier. If I’m not missing anything here, the entire High Voltage Arc makes little to no sense whatsoever.

Despite of High Voltage, I believe this part’s story is still great with an amazingly written Antagonist and Protagonist but I’ll return to them later.

Art
Araki had moved from Shonen Jump to Ultra Jump, so rather than drawing an entire chapter in a week, he could write one in a month due to now having monthly releases. This shows in the massively improved artwork...in the later half, in the first half the characters still seem like they were drawn in a week with plenty of slightly off model appearances, Johnny’s first appearance springs to mind, with him looking like an awkward background character rather than our main character.
Overall the art is much better than anything in the first six parts even though it got off to a rocky start.

Characters
Shonen Protagonists have a notorious habit of being bland and basic, Izuku Midoriya and Goku Son spring to mind with them only having surface level personalities and goals. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is guilty as hell with this, Jonathan Joestar is literally just kind, I cannot think of another character trait he has. Johnny however, is different. Johnny Joestar has an amazingly written backstory, he used to be a world class Jockey before he accidentally killed his brother, causing his father to say “God took the wrong son.” This makes Johnny incredibly arrogant on the outside when in reality he is just trying to cover up for his feelings of loneliness and self doubt. One day whilst taking a girl to the cinema, he is shot in the waist. The shot doesn’t kill him but it leaves his legs useless, no longer able to face himself due to being shot for his own arrogance, he becomes hopeless and almost depressed. When hearing about the Steel Ball Run he goes to see the beginning of the race where he encounters Spin for the first time, causing his legs to work for a second. This gives him hope and ultimately makes him join the Steel Ball Run which sets the events of the part into motion.

He is an amazing character and one of my favourite protagonists of all time. He isn’t the only amazing character as Funny Valentine, the main Antagonist is an amazingly written character. He used the Steel Ball Run as an excuse to hire racers to bring him the Holy Corpse Parts of Jesus Christ. He believes that in life, the only ones who matter are the ones who take control, this is why he takes the Corpse Parts to make America more powerful as the other countries haven’t taken them first.

Enjoyment
I heavily enjoyed reading Steel Ball Run, however there were some faults with it. I didn’t enjoy most of it’s beginning, until the Scary Monsters Arc, everything felt rather underwhelming, especially Tomb of the Boom which is easily one of my least favourite fights of the entire series. It’s far too boring and it drags on for much longer than it should have with a stand that wasn’t even very interesting

Overall
I believe Steel Ball Run is an amazing part of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, full of amazing characters, interesting stands and the best story of the whole franchise, despite Vento Auero being my favourite part, I cannot recommend Steel Ball Run enough, it’s a brilliant part you MUST read if you’re a JJBA Fan

Death Note review
Death Note is a rather interesting piece of work. I had never come across a manga quite like it, or characters like the ones I see in here. It starts off with 17 year old Light Yagami finding the Death Note. A Shinigami's handbook that if you write a person's name in it (and assuming you know their face) they die. Sounds like some sort of a sick joke right? Right? Wrong. The power of this little notebook is very real, and so real Yagami couldn't help but be tempted.

Welcome to the world of Deathnote where deception, and keeping on your toes is everything. That is what really hooked me about this manga is the complexity of most of the cast. Especially our two main men, Light and L. The dynamics between the two of them were intriguing. I was finding myself unable to put the manga down once I bought it! Everything in this manga does not happen without a precise, and clear reason. There are no piddly plot holes, or things that are untouched. To the first time viewer you may have to read it, and maybe one volume, numerous times to catch something you missed. Make sure you read the dialog again, and when you come to the volume after, go back and make connections. It's like your part of the twisted and macabre tale.

As far as the art goes Death Note is superb. The characters all imbue a sense of realism. Painting the realistic portrait here is what makes it so frightening sometimes. Characters are also top notch, and you'll notice many personalities. One character that stuck out the most, aside from the main cast was Touta Matsuda (hence my SN). He just seems like a genuine goofball, a light hearted guy through most of this. To me he was refreshing he was so undeniably human.
So give this manga whirl, I can bet you will not be disappointed.

Fullmetal Alchemist review
I remember when I had only four chapters left of this manga, I almost cried at the thought that it is the one I enjoyed the most, which means I may never come across something this awsome ever again. I absolutely don't regret reading it and I wish I could go back in time so that I can read it for the first time.

Art:
I always drew manga charcters just for fun, without even watching or reading the series they belong to, but the fullmetal alchemist manga made me think seriously about taking it to the next level. Arakawa Sensei's drawing style is outstanding, apart from a few I just found absurd. I reproduced a lot of scenes from the manga, it helped me practice a lot.

Story:
Apart from the mother's tragedy which happens in most mangas and is becoming a bit cliché, the story is great.I think the reason why Fullmetal Alchemist is very popular is that it is included in many genres of manga, no matter how old you are or what genre you like there is a high possibility that you enjoy it. Also the conspiracy is very well done. The romance part is like the faint coulour on a painting's background; it is not essential to the story, but without it the manga would be a bit boring, it is not useless at all like in some other things I've red. It's the kind of thing from which you can learn something, not just be entertained. Also, those jokes at th end of every volume are too precious to pass by.

Overall I recommend this manga to everyone who hasn't read it (I think it's better than the anime) especially to beginners.

Zero-One is a Seinen, Sci-fi, Action manga about a virtual reality game called MBZ; where players are pit against each other, in superhuman bouts. The overall plot is very interesting and somewhat engaging but this is ruined by the story. The story follows a particular young teenage boy (Nero Isurugi) who lives a meagre life but all things change when he encounters a MBZ champion (Yagami).

With the protagonist and the antagonist set, pretty early on, all that’s left is to see how the story unfolds. The flow of the story is pretty typical for this kind of manga but it’s not a bad thing to see the protagonist develop, through tougher and tougher challenges. Nevertheless it is a problem when random elements are added to the story; just to make it exciting because at times it fails to make any sense (like “01”) . At least the manga did a good job in introducing some interesting characters later on, but soon after that the story ends.

The characters have quite realistic personalities, making it easy to appreciate them however none of them are developed well enough, apart from Nero and maybe one other. So in the end this manga lacks any memorable characters that will remain in your thoughts, after the abrupt end.

The artwork of this manga is both amazing and odd at the same time. For those who are familiar with this mangaka’s best work (Gantz) would see the noticeable similarities in the art style; incredibly detailed panels that are easy to follow and bits of CG. However some of the character designs are pretty crude and this mangaka’s obsession with big breast is clearly evident.

Overall Zero-One proved to be a fairly enjoyable manga, while it lasted, and people who are used playing online multiplayer games would be able get into this manga and its familiar concept. Nonetheless this doesn’t change the fact that this manga was left unfinished, so reading it will leave you feeling incredibly let down and dissatisfied.

AKI-SORA review
Aki lives a wonderful life. She's got the beauty, intelligence, sports skills and popularity. Although, that changes when she's at home. She's very lazy and untidy leading her little brother, Sora, to clean it. Plus, Sora's twin sister Nami, is madly inlove with her best friend Kana, but doesn't admit it.

Bullied by Nami and often teased by Aki, Sora is left to do chores their mom has to do. But, where's their mom? She's busy with work like most moms. I'll add more, Sora actually harbors lustful feelings for his big sister Aki, who feels the same. It's an adventure and they have to work hard in order to keep these feelings from being discovered by their parents.

OKAY STOP. Let's take a break here and read my opinion. I saw this manga when I was looking for something ecchi-ish to read, but I didn't think it was this strong. Sex is shown throughout the whole story, but no showing of genitals to be safe.

The story is about two siblings having deep love for each other to the point that they actually committed incest. But doing it once didn't satisfy them, as they did it many more times and stopped when they were caught by somebody they know. I'll be hiding that character for now and will reveal it later.

The story progresses as Sora makes more friends, girls to be exact, and these girls have the same feelings Aki has for him. At volume two, the mother they see is actually their aunt, who acted like their mother when they were kids. The twins do not know what's going on, but Aki does, as she was the one who told their aunt not to reveal it. If she were to, the kids would be devastated due to the fact that their real mother died in a car crash and Aki and their aunt were lying. At the end of volume two, Nami and Sora engaged in sex. Well, not really engage but more of "Nami raped Sora." because she was jealous that Sora and Kana were actually progressing more that they were.

Volume three and four are just fillers in my opinion, just sex here for Sora and sex there. But, there was a point that when Sora took Kana's virginity, they were secretly filmed by the jealous Nami. At volume five, Sora and Kana were chosen to become the models of a photo-shoot. Then Sora befriends more minor characters and had sex with them. When volume five reaches the end, Kana had discovered Sora and Nami having sex and joins them, competing with Nami. The prize? Sora. Why does the little fucker have all the fucking girls?! I feel lonely. (┳Д┳)

One of those threesomes actually fixed Nami and Kana's relationship. They forgive and reveal their feelings towards another. At the final volume, there's a man who comes in to their house and Aki calls him father. But, Nami and Sora did not acknowledge him as he wasn't there during their childhood days. In one of those chapters, Aki becomes aroused and she and Sora again have sex again in the living room. Believing that the door was locked and nobody else was in the house, they continued. They actually finished and Aki says she's thirsty, leading Sora to get her a glass of water, but was stopped as they see their father standing by the door and was watching them the whole time.

This leads to Aki being taken away by their father and goes off somewhere far. Sora becomes lonely and acts strangely for some time, but gets the words of encouragement and goes off, searching and wanting to meet his beloved sister. He finally reaches his destination despite being in the road for days. As he meets Aki, they go to the hospital and Sora sees that his "father" was in it. Their father had been suffering. He still becomes stiff and refuses to call him father, leading to Aki slapping him really hard.

Eventually, their father dies and the whole family attends the funeral. It's revealed that the reason their father had separated them was because he committed incest too, and they were the product. It comes down to the point that Sora had to make his decision. Aki stays, or not. As he thinks hard, he does not notice the train leaving, with Aki. His final words on that chapter was "Don't go."

In the end, Sora is shown putting flowers on their mother's grave. That means he already knows the truth. He starts praying but a shadow catches his attention. He stands up and talks about their mom and dad finally being together again and will never be separated. It turns out that it was Aki, who arrived. In the end, nothing could stop their love for each other and they continued seeing each other.

The characters filled their roles nicely although there were characters who only appeared in filler chapters. A minus one for that.

Love, as portrayed in this manga, moves me. I don't care if you call me a pervert for the ecchi things in this manga. What I'm after is the story. Classic and simple. Forbidden Love. It's the main point of the manga. How will the lovers survive? How will their friends react? How long will they be able to keep this up? How will the society accept them? These are the questions that lingered in my mind while reading it.

Elf wo Karu Mono-tachi review
How on earth would one use eyeglasses as toilet paper? I mean it just doesn't seem physically possible.

Now look at those first 2 sentances. Did that make any sense to you at all? Well no it probably didn't (unless you've already read the book) so I'll just say its a bit of a joke in book 3. But the point I'm trying to make is that starting off your manga in the middle of the plot is rather... off putting lets say. Those who Hunt Elves, starts off in a rather strange placet, the characters are in a strange world, and it starts off with them trying to get back. It doesn't explain who they are, or how they got there... just that they are from earth and want to go back. Now... as the story progresses, bits and pieces start to fall into place, but its generally common knowledge that a little bit of a setting is needed for one to grow easily accustomed to the characters and storyline. Throwing the reader in the middle of the action and not explaining much about what happened before that can really turn one away from the story. But still, I can give them props for trying something different, just that this time it probably hurt the manga more than helped it.

Anyways... with that little annoyance out've the way, lets start the acctual review for Those Who Hunt Elves.

Those Who Hunt Elves is a random, but more or less solid comedy, based in a fantasy setting. The story is simple, but original, and leaves room for a lot of rather interesting filler (for this kind of story, i actually find i usually enjoy the filler more than the plot). 3 people from earth must find some magic fragments which are somewhere on the body of random elves ac cross a foreign world. Kinda like Final Fantasy crossed with a hentai (not really that bad). The whole premise of stripping elves to search for spell fragments makes you shiver with anticipation at the thought of the many MANY avaliable comedic moments one could have with such a plot. Its seems so simple when you look at it from affar, but up close, it really is quite enjoyable and makes it worth reading just on plot alone.

The characters are... well interesting to say the least. I'm still not sure whether I like them or not. I mean, I definitely don't hate them, but they're bizarre. You've got your usual idiot of a main guy, who fights well but can't read a book without getting a headache, but he tends to be quite a bit more of a jerk than most other male leads. In fact, he can be down-right cruel, its even partially his fault that the spell fragments got separated. Cecilia, the local elf, is constantly bickering with Junpei, while also trying to retain what little bit of her image she has left. Ritsuko seems somewhat of a younger sister type to junpei (the type that has slightly more affection then normal), though they aren't related by blood. And airi rounds the group off with her simple and elegant posture, as she never really gets fazed at all. She's a professional actress and as such is perfect at deception and at understanding what others are thinking. All together, the cast makes for an enjoyable lot, creating a myriad of funny scenes that never get old.

The enjoyment of it all really is down to the comedy of it. And well, its good. Its a very random sense of humor, pulling weird things out've the blue like *spoiler alert* Cats possessing tanks, bears pooping toilet paper, elves that look like yoda etc etc *end spoiler alert*. Its a really good thing to read if you wanna lighten up and just have a good laugh.

Overall, Those Who Hunt Elves starts off on a rather rocky basis, but builds up from it and creates a firm structure, that can hold its own in the dark cruel world of comedy. The arts a little iffy, and characters can get a little annoying at times, but overall it is definitely worth checking out. You probably won't see anything quite like it ever again.

Cooking/Isekai

I came across this manga mainly because I'm trash for generic and basic isekai but what I found was a nice little gem.

-----------------------

Pros:

- While manga with cooking as a premise often seems to base their entire story around it which often leads to an underdeveloped story/world, this manga seems to incorporate the cooking aspect while also developing every other aspect perfectly

- One of the two strongest points of this manga is the world. Like I said before, there's a well-developed world and often makes you believe that while you're reading, you only scratched the surface of the world and what's to come.

- Consistently detailed and pleasing art

- The story is good, and evolves further and further. With the help of the well set up world, the story is able to build itself up, making you invested in all other aspects like the world and the characters.

- The other of the two strongest points is without a doubt, the characters. A wide range of characters and cultures (Japanese, Scottish/British, Greek, & Chinese). This diversity in culture gives a lot of freedom into the types of dishes that can be made as well. This diversity in culture is incorporated while still having a large and diverse group of fantasy characters with their own characteristics (Elves, Dwarves, Beastmen)

- One of the main reasons as to why the characters is a strong point is because of the interactions/dialogue. It's really entertaining watching the interactions and dialogue between the characters (the little irish girl is really charming lol)

-----------------------

Cons:

- An unexplained and noticeable plot hole right from the beginning (though i'm not sure if the author will come back to it later or just forget about it entirely)

- Some cliche moments that repeats quite often, just with a different scenario

-----------------------

Overall:

This manga is very entertaining to read and the pros easily outweigh the cons. Go give it a read if you haven't already

Nidome no Jinsei wo Isekai de review
So this is an isekai story with a "different" kind of Main Character that is beginning to be the new norm. Not good nor evil, but does what needs to be done. Still this one stands out, and here is why.

Review of Vol: 1, minor spoilers might show up. (Due to personal opinions of the author, the anime was cancelled and the continuation of these novels is yet unknown.)

Story: A world on the brink of destruction, and the MC is there to save it all, indirectly at least. He won't have to fight, or do anything heroic. He only needs to live there and travel around to spread a certain resource God put on him. Simple enough. This made it interesting since the story could evolve into something unique, a fantasy world where our MC simply lives his life.

Unfortunately he saves a highborn, clueless (stupid) woman and is forced by her very beautiful bodyguard to join their adventurers party. Making it a typical platonic story with several women and one male. With more females to join in the future, I doubt sex or romance will become a part of this. Making me question what the author wants this story to be like.

Characters: This is where the novels are unique in at least one way.
The MC is a reincarnated old man given a 18 year old body. And he was a "sword master" that killed thousands of people in his original world, with a sword! Did I mention he was a member of the Chinese mafia, then fought in a war? While his memories are gone, his body and instincts to slaughter remains intact. Which is the one thing to make this series interesting.

Then we have a bodyguard, the knight/priest blond big-boobed woman whom is nothing out of the ordinary. As well as her client, the highborn (possibly princess) woman that knows nothing about the psychology of men, thinking nothing about being with 6 strange men in a forest. What could go wrong?

Of course the loli Goddess with her own inner-monologue chapters is barely worth mentioning. Since she's there for the gags, and to guide the girls to our MC. A harem creating mastermind.

Overall: So while the MC is unique and might provide with needless slaughter, the story and rest of the cast is nothing special. It tries to be dark-ish and make it seem mature. But within the first volume there's already been a sex-refusal from our main character. Along with helping those in need and having everything go their way. But the writing itself is not bad, and there's nothing to really complain about. I will continue reading it, if only to know what this story is actually aiming to become.
