The Horizon review
Firstly, the Story: 10
--
Horizon is a manhwa of two main characters that are traveling aimlessly during a time of war, entailing a series of incidents that questions their moral compass and scenarios where death seems inevitable. However, in the midst of chaos and destruction, the characters are able to rely on one another to take another step in their life. It warmed my heart seeing two individuals, despite the circumstances, being able to find joy and happiness in one another and strongly moving forward together.

Secondly, the Artwork: 10
--
The artwork is very unique and different from the usual manhwa and mangas you would read. The author does an incredible job illustrating the emotion that is being expressed or currently felt by the characters, and it's amazing how well he communicates with the readers with the artwork rather than solely through words.

Lastly, the Overall: 10
--
I highly recommend you to read this manhwa if you are looking for a piece that would leave a "rock in your shoe" to make you question your perspective on life. This piece flooded my thoughts and forced me to sit down and reevaluate, think, and how I perceived life and exactly what kind of purpose I am following. A serious recommendation from me :)

(This portion below isn't a review but rather a commentary of what the message the author was REALLY trying to portray, so ONLY READ IT IF YOU"VE READ IT ALL)
--
I believe most, if not all of the reviews, have completely missed the intended message of "Horizon". I myself did not recognize till the author deliberately used the Bible to further portray a message far more devastating and hopeful than it really meant. Firstly, the author quotes the infamous verse of King Solomon's book of Ecclesiastes (bible), "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity" to which King Solomon portrays the meaningless of life since we all die and all the efforts go to waste. What King Solomon wanted to portray in the book of Ecclesiastes is the meaningless of life when you toil after materialistic things, but on the other hand, if you toil after the glorification of the One Triune God, it is all counted as worthy. The author does an INCREDIBLE job in building up the theme of what King Solomon wanted to portray in Ecclesiastes using the story and the reason the sniper lived for, the band of thieves performing immoral actions to satisfy their needs/get their revenge, the girl's memory of the bus and the sickness, and lastly even the death of the girl. While all seemed meaningless and hopeless, the author ends the message of "horizon" with the boy finding hope in Jesus Christ and placing his trust by grabbing his nail-pierced hand.

In conclusion, the message is this, the world is cruel, evil, and disgusting because of sin, and living a life with a hope placed on materialistic things that will come to pass will only bring delayed suffering. However, we can find true hope in believing in the eternal King, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for the sake of mankind.

p.s please have grace on my review as it is my very first! I want to thank you for reading it up to this point and hope that you understood what I was trying to say. If you have any question regarding with Christianity or desiring to understand the depth of the message (understanding it in depth is why I loved this masterpiece so much) please reach out to my ig @timewithJesus

Death Note review
Alright, first review I’ve done on this site, so apologies if it isn’t exactly the best thing. The reason why I decided on Death Note was for the simple reason of…it was because of this site that I got into it, and Death Note opened me up to series where fighting isn’t really relevant, so I felt it would be fitting for my first review on here to be about one of my “Life Changing” manga/anime. Let’s just get into this though. Oh yeah, I’m putting spoilers in this review, nothing major (I think anyway), but you have been warned.

Story: 9/10
What is the whole premise of Death Note? Essentially, it’s about a high school student who found a book that can kill people and decides to play God since he has the power to “judge” people now. This student, Light Yagami, starts off only killing criminals that he deemed were too evil for this world, but eventually decides to kill anyone that is a threat to his ideal world. One of these threats is a detective that goes under the alias of L. The first half of the series mainly dealt with Light’s rise to godhood while having a mind duel with L, the one person Light thought could figure out he was the culprit for killing all these criminals. If I can make an analogy, this battle between L and Light could be compared (albeit on a much serious scale since whoever loses between those two loses everything) to Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba from the original series. Much like Kaiba, Light is hell-bent on defeating his rival and then rising to the greatest in their series (Dueling world for Kaiba and the world in general for Light). On the reverse side, L and Yugi are more focused on just doing what they do best, and take all challenges, including the challenges of their rivals. I can also say that the battle between L and Light was the greatest part of Death Note, and I can maybe even say one of the greatest in manga period. The plot twists are also so amazing. The most controversial one of them all is still in my Top 5 moments in all of manga, even after all the other series I have read. I’m not saying what it is, but you can probably figure it out if I told you it involves L’s and Light's final confrontation. All in all, I say an amazing plot. The only reason why it’s not a perfect score is because near the end, they were making a lot of characters almost nonexistent (Misa being the prime example).

Art: 8/10
If I can say anything, it’s that the characters are drawn pretty well. With one exception, I don’t think there is one character that looks bad and even then, the one character I think looks bad is probably just me. The scenery looked nice, and when something evil from an “evil” character was about to happen, I could definitely tell that most of these characters were enjoying themselves with their facial expressions (hello Light!). I’m not good at describing art, so I’m keeping this part short.

Characters: 15/10 (10/10)

Oh. My. God. These characters are some of the greatest characters I have ever had the privilege to read about. With one exception, I really love every single character in Death Note. I think every single one of them are written in a beautiful way that makes them extremely interesting and diverse that you can’t possibly mix up any character. I’m going to put it his way for all you video game enthusiasts and especially Portal fans; I would say most of these characters have the same charm and likeability as the ones in Portal and the sequel. I’ll go a little in depth about the two main characters so you can see where I’m coming from.

Light Yagami, the main character of the story and probably the most well written character, isn’t your typical hero where he’s good and he can never do evil. No no no, he’s far from good. If I can give him one title to describe it would be Satan, and that’s why I love him. He is so distant from what I was accustomed to for a main character of a manga, that I was actually upset whenever he was losing against L. I think the biggest reason why I love the guy though is probably because of the way he had fallen from grace. Based on what I said previously, you would assume Light was evil from day one right? He actually started out with good intentions, only killing criminals that he saw doing crimes himself. Eventually though, he started becoming more and more power hungry, and killed anyone he felt didn’t fit in his ideal world. That is actually a believable reason to descend into become the very evil you set out to destroy, not because you felt like being a dick (like most hero-turned villains in media sadly). Other than having the power to kill all, Light is actually a realistic character. Anyone would become corrupt if they had that much power. I could go on with this, but I got one other character to do plus a whole other section, so moving on.

L, the second main character and my second favorite character (you probably wouldn’t ever guess my favorite), is probably one of the strangest characters if he isn’t the strangest character in the series. My first impression of the guy was that he was going o be a guy that looked interesting but would only have one good moment in the entire series, not counting when he beat Light. Boy was I wrong and I was so glad about that too. While Light got the most development as a character, L was the more entertaining of the two in my opinion. He’s a real pleasant surprise since, like Light, is almost nothing like the standard hero of a manga. He isn’t afraid to do cruel and demented things like torture Light and Misa to get answers, and even considers writing people’s name in the Death Note to see if it really does kill people. He’s also not afraid to be out there, with his strange sitting position or how he admits that sleeping would make him stupider. He’s still a genius though, despite his weird habits. Only someone like L could pull off having not one, but three different aliases and not get discovered, all of it with no one but his butler knowing his real name. That is pretty impressive, no matter how high your standards are.

Again, most of these characters are written so well, that I think there is only one character that I think could have been improved on. The characters are definitely the reason why you read the series.

Enjoyment/Overall Rating: 10/10

Overall, Death Note was a blast to read/watch. If you are just getting into manga/anime, go and give this series a read, you’ll probably love manga in general after doing so. If you are already a long time fan of manga, why haven’t you checked this out? You are missing out on an amazing series and should check it out. From the characters to the amazing plot twists, there wasn’t a single dull moment where I just wanted to give up on this series. I’m not afraid to give Death Note a 10/10, as it really deserves it. Thank you for getting me into non manga Light and L, hope you can do the same with other new people to the world of manga.

Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi review
Before writing this review, I sat in my chair for 5 minutes chanting "Oh I have to review this shit pile". That's how much I hate this thing. It wasn't worth reading what there is and I want that time back, it's so awful. It's legit just someone's murder fetish. Note that this review contains spoilers for chapters 20 - 26 and that they're not censored or anything. I'm extremely sorry.

Story: 1
Revenge stories are something I enjoy when you understand why the protagonist wants revenge. I would say spend at least a volume on setting up the awful happenings that lead to revenge. Basically, the more extreme the revenge, the more time should be spent on why they want such terrible things. This manga gives a single chapter and expects us to go along with it. It makes the protagonist look immoral with how little we get to see. I became more invested in a shopkeeper's story and that was only there for what, a page?

Art: 2
It's extremely mediocre, nothing special. For something like this, it makes everything feel slightly off considering how distraught the characters are. Plus, there's too much fanservice. I've read Keijo, and it was really fun. But not this. There are just so many nude and lewd girls that it feels more like cheap hentai than a mind-bending manga that's supposed to make you question everything. I did not need to see a gigantic black spiky dildo.

Characters: 1
The main character is a Gary stu who is perfectly justified in the mass genocide and horrible atrocities he commits against innocent towns. In case he seems like a total villain, don't worry, this manga has the solution of instead of using the protagonist's horrid deeds to compare him to the bad guys and show how he's becoming what he hates and give a relatively interesting comparison, let's just make the bad guys even worse! See the sword hero? She's a rapist now. That makes her horrible cannibalism and rape justified. Fantastic. Plus, his harem is just a sex club.
Don't get me started on the bad guys, they seem bad for the sake of being bad rather than interesting immoral characters. Plus, everyone who doesn't have some positive relationship with the protagonist, his harem, or his village is pure evil unless they're not fully human.

Enjoyment: 1
This was literal torture to read. The disgusting fetishism, the horrid characters, and no elements I was promised. This sucked so much.

Overall: 1
Please do not read this unless you like mindless murder porn. I got so angry I want to create a fantasy world base. And I probably will.

Virgin Ripper review
Virgin Ripper--a horrible and misleading title, by the way--is about an awkward grim reaper who is in love with her boss. The boss steals a powerful artifact and runs away with a dangerous group of minions, leaving her behind. The girl sets out to track down the artifact and find out why her beloved boss could be wrapped up in such evil doings.

It's an odd manga. The content starts off stereotypical shoujo (ditsy girl, cute jerk guy), gets extremely bloody and rather disturbing by about chapter 6, and eventually settles into a plot that has a lot in common with some supernatural shounen harem manga, except it's told from one of the girls' perspective.

The end result does work; it is an enjoyable read, with an interesting set of characters and a pretty unique plot. But it is not quite good enough to be a "must-read" if you really aren't into this sort of thing--and I'm really not sure who is going to be really into this sort of thing.

As for the rest: the art is pretty good, for shoujo fantasy artwork, but not spectacular. The characters are mostly interesting, and many have good backstories, although some of them are dispatched way too quickly. The pacing of the manga is pretty good, although the romantic aspect of the ending feels a bit hacked-on.

So overall a pretty good, enjoyable manga... if you want an extremely bloody, and sexualized shoujo romance in a supernatural fantasy setting.

Dagashi Kashi review
As if Japan didn't have everything already, they also pride themselves on having a HUGE selection of candy and sweets at your nearest convenience stores, and this manga is almost like a throwback to most of the popular sweets in our childhood.

Dagashi Kashi (rough translation) "Cheap Sweets", is an episodic manga about Shikada Kokonotsu, a wannabe-mangaka that is against his father's wishes of managing the town's sweet shop, and Shidare Hotaru, a fan of her father's store and his reputation who also has an (insane)fascination for sweets.

Filled with puns and sweets, each chapter works with a single popular candy to tell the story. From sweet drinks, to gum, to cellphone's filled with candy, to yogurts, Hotaru uses each sweet as an excuse to explain the greatness of candy's existence in the world and to convince Kokonotsu of taking over his father's store. This can bring back many memories if you ever experienced having some of the candy that are brought up in this manga(or lookalikes) and it's a fine way to keep the readers engaged with the story.

The comedy fits the art-style, even if it does feel too rough in some parts, but the characters' eccentricities and quirkiness are well portrayed through the comical expressions and faces the often show.

Dagashi Kashi does not depend on the character development but rather on the ridiculousness of how the candy involved affects the daily lives of our characters, and the shortness of each chapter works as a way to not bore the reader, even if sometimes the story feels lacking.

Very enjoyable and very short, but with tons of sweets, candy, and jokes. This manga is worth following if you have a strong appetite for sugar, sugar, and sugar. (kids don't forget to eat your broccoli!)

Lip Smoke review
Well, this is a re-edit of a manga I was told would be a one shot and it seems it is now an actual series going on.

So my thoughts before were that I said I actually liked the little one piece I thought this was and my thought still stands. The thought of a perverted guy wanting to write a sweet romance is actually rather cute and yet he seems to play our main character by tugging her around. It’s sad because when many times the rather sweet love that the two seem to share is broken by Seta becoming goofy over the fact he can use the material for his new book. It breaks the mood that they so nicely lined up and it happens so often that I feel like the story is going astray. I also am not really fond on the fact that Seta does so much to make her love him (Although he isn’t really trying to do that) and then just pushes her away. It is a bit annoying and feels like he is playing with an innocent girl’s heart. We still see that he is a bit more mature even if he is perverted but little by little, he starts acting more like an old man or a little kid one right after another.

Iwato, who used to be a stand off-ish girl is actually becoming more aggressive as the book goes on, sort of pushing herself onto Seta and trying to get him to know her feelings but then she goes back to being stand off-ish again. She flip flops all over the place. I guess the two are meant for each other if they are going to keep being multi-personalitied like that but it got to a point I wanted them to just get it over with.

The artwork was rather good though the art style is a bit different then shoujo styles. It is rather detailed but our main character isn’t a typical high school girl. She seems much more adult like and not as innocent. The eyes are the most intense, showing almost all the emotions Setsuna feels even though her face is almost all straight where as Seta’s emotions are on his sleeve.

I did like this one though the personalities of the two people have me shaking my head at times.

Domestic na Kanojo review
This is the first time I've actually hated every single character in a manga, before (except for Momo). Literally every single person (except Momo) is the absolute worst kind of scumbag human being that could be put to paper. Normally, that's not a problem (I actually enjoy reading Redo of Healer and everyone in that manga is completely horrible). However, this mangaka seems to write these horrible people as if they were angels and the fucked up things they do are either excused, or not a problem at all. Apparently, if you do horrible things, but you were doing them because you "love" someone, it's all okay, because you were "in love". Think that sounds ridiculous? Maybe I'm exaggerating? Let me give you multiple examples:

Hina: The main character's (Natsuo) main love interest in the beginning of the manga and who he'll inevitably get with at the end of the series, as well. She's written as cute and bubbly and fans of the series literally call her an angel and/or a saint. She is the literal definition of a homewrecker and loved/bragged about her 2 year sexual relationship with a married man. She also constantly mentally tortures Natsuo and has the maturity and intelligence of an infant. Also just a whore, in general.

Shuu: Written as a kind, knowledgeable older man with a strong sense of justice and morality. Cheated on his wife for 2 years, while leading on the homewrecker the whole time.

Miyabi: Written the same as Hina. Constantly tries to get into a relationship with a guy who she knows has a girlfriend, going so far as to force a kiss on him and show up to his apartment in lingerie. Contributed to the couple in question breaking up.

Misaki: Written as a good girl, who's lonely and makes (minor) mistakes. Is a literal prostitute, drug dealer AND user, and extremely invasive. The mangaka had Natsuo say VERBATIM "she had no choice but to turn to drugs".

Natsuo: Written as a great person with a strong sense of justice. Literally the worst MC I've ever seen, including the one from Infinite Stratos. Denser than tungsten, leads on multiple women, makes extremely horrible decisions and receives no punishment for them. Ever.

If at any point you read those character descriptions and thought "there's no way the character could be THAT bad," you would be wrong. Believe it or not, they're actually much worse than what I described.

If I could give this garbage a 0/10, I would. But I can't. This is a horrible manga, for horrible people. If you're at all like me, this manga will put you into a deep depression and an unbelievable amount of white-hot rage. If I could go back in time and erase this trash from my memory, I would.
