Fullmetal Alchemist review
Nothing but superlatives across the board. I would give this series a 100 if the site let me.

It's probably one of the most interesting and deep manga I have read so far. It's fascinating, the interplay of good and evil and the decisions people have to make as they walk between those extremes.

I think most of the characters are super likable (especially Ed Elric and Roy Mustang!) and even when they're not, they're at least interesting. The sins (Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Lust, etc) are so damn interesting. Art is fantastic. All the characters look DIFFERENT and all the fighting scenes are well down.

Another thing I'm impressed with is how TIGHT the writing is. Not a single wasted page and a story that was very clearly developed with a ton of thought and planning. As I read through the manga, I kept going back to previous chapters and seeing old scenes in a new light going, "Ah! So THAT's what that was!" Some of it blew my mind, I'm serious. The ending was just so perfect, it was EPIC. Just the way that everything came together, ahhhh. Story is so good and complex that I've re-read it a bunch of times and came out appreciating something new each time.

It's a perfect story. Lots of complex themes. And also despite how dark this story really is (I mean, there's stuff like genocide...), there are many funny moments. They mostly come from Mustang and his crew or Mustang fighting with Ed or Ed's complex about his height haha.

As far as completed manga go, this one is my favorite so far. It's hard to reach this level of perfection in manga, but this one does it. I give it my highest recommendation. (Also the anime FMA: Brotherhood follows the manga very closely and is basically AMAZING. Watch it!!)

Dennou Kakugi MephistoWaltz review
I'm going to be honest, there is nothing in this manga that is new.

I came across it when I was looking through Okayusan's (the artist for this manga) manga list. For any that don't know them, they're a doujinshi artist that does some really quite exceptional art and so, seeing an actual published manga they had drawn, I decided that I would give it a try.

Short summary of opening story (skip if you want no spoilers):

The story starts with our MC, a talented pianist, performing Franz Liszt's Mephisto Waltz in a piano recital only to find that in the final few bars, he loses all movement in his fingers. Distraught by the loss of his primary skill and therefore future goals he despairs. It's a story we have heard before, only not done as well as others did it. Anyway, our MC mopes around for a bit before discovering an arcade fighting game through a video and is surprised to find the character being played, is a mirror image of himself. Intrigued, he sets out to find this game at his local arcade and the story continues from there.

Thoughts:

The art really elevates this work and is in my opinion the only thing that stands out. The characters are fairly bland, the story is very predictable and it's so short that it never really gets anywhere, ending almost abruptly as though there were plans for it to go further but it never did (it may have got cancelled I'm not sure).

But as I say, if you're going to read it for anything, read it for the art. Okayusan adds a great deal of detail to each drawing through prominent shadows. It gives the images much more depth and can make some really quite amazing pages that create a great sense of movement.
To summarise, unless you want to see some pretty eye-catching artwork, I'd give this one a miss.

Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar review
Let me start by saying that this manga's intended audience was probably for those under the age of 10. This review is viewing it from that perspective, but also taking into account the idea that just because something is for children, doesn't mean it has to be idiotic.

Story: 6
Typical and basic story. No points for originality here. Includes fairies, main female character with special trait that no one has and basic yet vague goals. But hey, its short and it fills that time with short stories that can make you smile. Writing is OK.

Art:7
This art will have you puking glitter and farting rainbows by the time you're done. Its incredibly adorable and strangely enough, doesn't get old. they are continuously cute. That doesn't mean its good art but considering its one of the main reasons I read all 3 volumes, I can certainly up this quite a few points.

Characters: 4
BLAND BLAND BLAND. Saya=Boring, Fairies= Adorable. This is the most you get out of these characters. Yes they show some personality but its just cookie cutter personalities. Shes responsible and organized, She cute and curious, blahblahblah. Kid anime/manga tend to have bland characters that kids can relate to or understand but COMEON!

Enjoyment:8
Wait an 8?! I have to admit it was such the guilty pleasure. It wasn't amazing but it always managed to cheer me up when I was down and in the end, made me feel like a kid again. I suspended reality for a moment when I read it and forgot about the literary masterpieces I've read before and just tried to enjoy it as a child. This is mostly personal and others probably won't get as much enjoyment as I did

Final Word: 6
I have such mixed emotions about this, but in the end, its not that great. If you want to get a younger sister into manga however, this would be good to start with. It's simple and overly cute but its still adorable and enjoyable. I really couldn't explain why its enjoyable even though I know its not that great, but I guess its one of those things you have to see for yourself. Seeing that its only 3 short volumes, it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot and see if its your guilty pleasure too.

Mahou Shoujo of the End review
Mahou Shoujo of the End is a pretty terrible manga. It's about a kid who's having a really bad day. First, he sees one of his teachers get his head blown off. That's pretty bad. Then just about everybody else gets killed, too. Even worse, they get killed by a walking, talking doll. I don't know about you, but that's not a very cool way to die. Anyway, after that a whole bunch of people turn into zombies and this guy's day just goes downhill from there. I don't know. Like I said, it's pretty terrible.

The manga itself isn't anything too special. The plot isn't too incredible and the characters are pretty boring. But that's OK, because about 90% of them get killed by the first 90 pages. So you don't have to worry about their archetypes for very long. The rest will probably die in the next volume. BUT, if you like to see people get hurt, then this is the manga for you. There's about fifty people who literally have their heads blown off their bodies, I think there's a few arms and legs ripped off, a couple dudes get burned to death by a fireball, and a big old pile of people get dropped off the top of a building. So, if you don't like people, you will love reading this. I guess that makes me a pretty bad person, because I made it through the entire first volume myself. I guess I just don't like people very much. So, I guess the only reason you should read this is if you like shock horror.

Nevertheless, it kept me entertained. Oh, and I read it in Japanese, so it wasn't a complete waste of time. I learned the phrase "頭が爆発した". It means "his head exploded". I don't know about you, but I think that's a very useful phrase to remember.

Akatsuki!! Otokojuku: Seishen yo, Taishi no dake review
The sequel to Sakigake!! Otokojuku, Akatsuki!! Otokojuku continues to provide a few qualities that made the original series so entertaining, whilst having far more of the problems that kept it in obscurity.

Following the adventures of the next generation of Otokojuku, Akatsuki introduces a new cast of main characters, though in terms of actual characterisation they may as well be the old cast. Aside from being more boisterous, Tsurugi Shishimaru is no different a character from his dad Momotaro, with the same being said of Akashi Juzo and Daigouin Kouki compared to their fathers Akashi Gouji and Daigouin Jaki respectively. Kurosu Nobunaga plays a similar role as a semi-serious comic relief character as Togashi Genji did and Zhang Wukong's role as a short underdog with a lot of spirit is just a more plot relevant version of Gokuonji Hidemaro. The rest of the new characters provide little to talk about it, all being either a parade of honourable warriors or despicable cowards with very little in terms of personality of development. That said, characters are a very weak point for the series due to how little development each of the main cast get beyond a backstory to flesh them out and a few personality quirks. The only engaging factor about them is the comedic interactions and actions they take.

On the subject of characters remaining the same, this ties into the story essentially being the same repetitive formula Otokojuku provided for over 30 volumes, being tournaments and death battles between martial artists over arbitrary reasons. I also use the term "death battles" loosely when it comes to major characters as like the original, Akatsuki refuses to kill off any of it's main cast regardless of how much focus is given on their "death" all for the sake of using their survival as a poor twist. They even revive a character who died in the original series all for the sake of fanservice.
The plot can mainly be seen as a tribute to the original series and nothing else, with many characters and concepts being carbon copies of the original. 'Member the Sanmenken? 'Member the Tencho Gorin Daibukai? 'The entire plot is a repetition in order to recapture nostalgia of the original, with what expansion it does of those concepts feeling entirely contrived. For instance, the idea of each Sanmenken generation's similarities feels absolutely ridiculous.

Art is decent enough, unless looking at it compared to the original. Miyashita's art style has taken far more of a cartoonish and over the top look compared to the more realistic touches to his characters' faces inspired by Hokuto no Ken. A definite drop in quality.

So, does the series have any decent qualities? Well, seeing as how I'm not rating it a 1/10, it's pretty obvious it does. If looking at it from an entertainment perspective, the series works well as a dumb action-comedy through it's various martial arts styles and crude humour. One of the story arcs, whilst overly Shonen in it's nature and with a very unsatisfying ending, drew from ideas within Miyashita's short work "Baramon no Kazoku" (The Brothers of Brahman) to help expand the world building of his works, being quite a peak for an otherwise schlock work.

If you're one of the few who's a big fan of Otokojuku or just want a series that has a great amount of Manliness and GAR despite whatever poor plot of character development it has, you may like the series if you don't find 200 chapters too long a haul. If you're looking for a series that truly stands out from the crowd in superpower action-comedies, however, this isn't the one for you.

Akaki Tsuki no Meguru Koro review
SO technically I would give it a 7.5 but I pushed it up to 8 because I'm nice.

Really, I liked the story to this manga, it was interesting and I like these murder mystery type things I guess.
I'm a little sad that it's only like 2 volumes with like 10 chapters because I feel like it was all very rushed and if it had been stretched out a little bit more then it could have been even better than it already is.
I really love the little plot twists here and there and the fact you don't know who's doing what or what anyone's agenda is, its great.
It made me cry a few times as well and that's when I can tell something is good whether it be a manga, anime, book or T.V show, if it makes me cry then its worth at least a 7.
And well that ending that was just amazing, I love endings like that, that was what made me cry the most out of everything, gosh it was great.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this manga and I just really wish it was longer because everything felt a little rushed and too jumbled together.
There's also the fact that I didn't feel like that characters where properly explored, really I fell like I didn't know the characters very well as there was no venturing into back stories and I think that would have made the manga better if the characters had been explored more and given a little more depth that they had actually been given.
If these two things had of happened then I would have given the manga a higher score but honestly those things were something I felt could have been improved.

Overall though, it was quite a good manga and I did enjoy it.
