Beck review
I started reading Beck manga as soon as I finished the anime. The anime no doubt was pretty good on its own terms; felt anti-climatic to me. Thus, reading the manga was a necessity.

Beck follows group of boys as they come together through their mutual love of English rock music and form a band, in the hopes of standing in the same stage as the rock legends. The story follows the MC Yukio getting acquainted with guitarist Ryuusuke and subsequently getting sucked into the music scene. He along with other characters form a band called as Beck. Ensuingly the story follows Beck's struggle to make it to the top. They face constant hardships as they develop and strive to create music that is not only popular but also something they themselves as a band can be proud of. This is a constant struggle for the characters in the manga and drives the story forward. The theme that integrity and vision should not be compromised to create works just to earn money and be popular. Throughout the manga the characters are struck in situations wherein they have to make such decisions and to not be sellout is something that drives and motivates them to create the music they want to create. This leads to trouble with the industry big wigs which creates problems for them to make it truly big despite getting moderate fan following. Despite music driving the story, the manga at its heart is a SOL manga which focuses on the band members meeting and interacting with both old and new characters and environment. Their experiences and progress is what makes the manga truly interesting and worthwhile. The subplot which is present for majority of manga is a romance between the MC Kouyuki and Maho who become friends and later lovers due to their mutual affiliations to Ryuusuke. This story follows their struggle to keep the relationship intact while dealing with the contrasting personality, friends and environment. As the romance started quite early in the manga, it had a solid 5~6 years of development which gave us a well fleshed and believable romance rather than the cutesy stuff that is usually written. This story also tackled complicated themes with poignancy, which is unusual for a manga whose main story is not romance between the lead pair. The slow script the writing did wonders for this manga in some aspect.

The characters are where this manga both shines and fails. The characters are actually very well written, with distinct personalities allotted to them. And there are few scenes where one characters acts out irrationally and it seems extremely believable with their personalities. Koyuki develops as a bored and uninterested teenager to a focused and passionate man. Ryuusuke faces his own dilemmas and internal struggles and deals with them his own way. Though most of Ryuusuke's action were out of the blue and were extreme. It would have been fine if it happened once but he repeatedly took measures and actions which were irrational and also unbelievable and went without any repercussions. The band accepted him with open arms and made him a captain repeatedly while he behaved like a child throughout. This could have been better written as actions have consequences and for the sake of story the characters were often left out easy. Another thing which hampered characters progress was the characters not learning from their previous mistakes. A lot of conflicts could have been avoided if the characters just talked out or stopped and thought about the veracity of the claims put forth against another character. This would have led to simpler and quicker outcomes. This was sacrificed for forced drama with no payoff.

The art was very detailed and the characters felt real. Every character had their own distinctive features. Every character had a tired look to them as the series progressed and their input doubled. They did not appear as some charming prince and princess straight out of a fairy tail. The panels dedicated to their indivudal performances were all very well done and exhibited the dedication the characters put on their craft. The full page art were extremely detailed and captured the essence of live performance.

Overall, Beck is an immensely enjoyable manga for people of all ages. The coming of age story about a boy who discovers his passion for music and dreams to make it big while staying true to his craft and his sense of music. It is far better than the anime as it portrays great character development and a satisfying and conclusive ending.

Osanazuma: Marple no Jikenbo review
This manga is a weird mix between short murder mysteries and intense hentai scenes, framed by a romance story about a newly wed couple. The "Drama" and "School" genres are completely wrong btw and don't apply at all, so ignore those. But does this mix work? Sadly, the answer is no.

The murder mysteries are easily the most enjoyable part of the manga. But most murder cases only last for one chapter, some of them are two chapters long... and these chapters are short. Simply put, they have no depth and don't even qualify as mysteries. We pretty much just get an information dump on the murder, then one odd little thing is revealed about the crime scene, and then we immediately get the solution. Half of the time my lazy guess at that point was correct, but I didn't feel accomplished at all since the mysteries were so simple. The other half of them just had bullshit solutions. But even if they were more clever, as a reader I couldn't care less about them. There simply is no time to get invested in anything.

The characters are flat, but that doesn't really matter. There is no overarching story as the manga is very episodic, and you're clearly supposed to only read one chapter at a time. The romance framework story never actually goes anywhere and you are bound to have a deja-vu in every chapter, as it is the same thing happening again and again: Random murder, Miss Marple gets involved and immediately solves the case, hardcore fucking.

The art is really great though and among the best I've seen! All the characters look unique, all the lines are clean and some backgrounds - especially on the splash pages - are absolutely beautiful! There are only very few "low effort" panels, and our main character is simply stunning! That said, there is a huge problem that I have... and it's the censorship. But more about that in the next paragraph.

This manga utterly fails when it comes to the Hentai scenes. They are very vanilla, heterosexual sex scenes with various sex positions etc. That's fine, but what really bothers me is the terrible censorship! The genitals are completely blocked out by white blotches and pretty much everything is left up to imagination! I am pretty sure they did it this way to get a better rating and could publish it under better conditions, without it actually counting as porn (it's for 16+ year olds here in Germany), but at that point you have to ask: What's the point? I would have been fine with some standard "pixelation" censorship, or small bars blocking the most important parts. But if I wanted to see barbie dolls fuck I wouldn't want to read this shit and look at a non-existent penis penetrating a white void.

With all of these three aspects (murder mysteries, romance plot, sex scenes) failing, I can't bring myself to rate this manga any higher than a 4/10. Which is really a shame, since I really loved the artstyle and the idea they were going for. Whether you want an engaging mystery, a good romance or some hot Hentai action: There are better alternatives out there.

Colored review
Colored or Color of rage is another great historical manga written by Kazuo Koike, the man behind "Lone wolf and cub".

The story, set in Edo period Japan show the adventures of two escaped slaves by name of George and King, African and Japanese, and their encounters with injustice and brutality of the era. Being former slaves themselves, they rush to help to those in need, sometimes they succeed in their efforts, but sometimes they fail because in reality, you can't save everyone alone.

The story shows how peasants and generally weak people were treated by the more powerful, strong people. The treatment of the humans is very harsh and this is the main theme of the manga-humans are free and given free will. Why should you bow to some one and (literally) eat mud just because he is richer than you? given that the main characters were slaves, this theme plays hard early on, about struggles of men to become free, to fight injustice of rich and successful people who use them, and to eradicate evil.
The story is also very immersive, fans of lone wolf and cub know it already but the author has a way to suck the reader in the era by using simple stuff like way of speaking and particular manners of the time.

As for the characters, we have two main ones. The first is George, a Japanese man that became a slave and escaped. He is very knowledgeable about the culture of Japan and how you should behave in situations, he is the more calculated of the two, and he is also a skilled sword fighter. George can appear to be more cold hearted, but this is the only more realistic approach to life-this is the way things are, and you can't always do something about it, especially when it's way bigger than just yourself. But in the end, he is always kind and helpful to his friend.
His friend is the African King. Being a foreign man in strange land he has a lot of troubles understanding the culture and the way things are. This theme could be played a little bit better, but the great effect from it is the way King affected from it. He is showing his personality, kind and hateful towards injustice. Suffering a lot in United states himself and huge discrimination against his kind he passionate about helping the weak and the innocent, and against all form of slavery.

The relationship of the two is very interesting as they are good friends bound by hard circumstances and painful past.

The art is good. Very good even, and fit the manga perfectly. I was surprised discovering that the artist is different from "Lone wolf and cub" as it so similar. Sure, there are same-face people over the manga, but the art itself is good, and the character design of the main characters is excellent.

In conclusion, the more I think about the manga the more I realize how much I enjoyed it and wished for it to be longer. There are several problems about it, like unsatisfying ending as it just... ends. We could see more about the treatment towards blacks beside the first chapter, and if we knew more about the past of the two we could understand and connect them better. The real problem is that it's simply too short, and I wish for more. I recommend you to read this wonderful manga, it won't take a lot of your time, and if you enjoy historical stuff, I think you would enjoy it.

Final Fantasy XII review
As everyone may know, this manga is based on the RPG Final Fantasy XII, this work helped understand me the story a little better compared to the game, especially the beginning. nonetheless; it was bad after all.

I highly doubt that someone who haven't played the game would enjoy reading this manga, the story was not explicit so it''s hard to follow, and -for some reason that I don't know- it got axed, so it will stop at a very wrong point, if you're thinking of playing the game then maybe this manga will give you a general idea about what you're going to play and you get to know the characters... though I wonder if someone would want to play of the PS2 generation now.

The art was bad in my opinion, in some point the author suddenly decided to draw some really violent scenes that really doesn't suit this series, I mean the game was one which anyone with the age of 12+ could play, yet I won't really recommend anyone below 16 to read this one because of some disturbing scene. that aside; the drawing wasn't really clear and many facial expression of some characters were somehow off.

The only thing that I could give some credit for this manga is the characters, they were well-done I would say, especially Balthier and Basch, here you could get to know them better if you already had played the game.

My overall rate is 4/10, I did enjoy reading it but, like I said before, it ends in a really bad point, so I got really disappointing after all.

Thanks for reading! :)

I randomly stumbled upon this manga and the art style, female main character and horror theme peaked my interest.

Story: 7/10
On the one hand, the story is quite original. It takes elements from quite a number of universes and create a "coherent" one with it (real life zombies, video game, parallel world etc...). Moreover it takes places in a world not often linked with such themes (modern world but with dissonant elements: geisha etc...).
On the other hand, this work is quite short and I think the story does not get enough time to be developped and even with the twists I had some difficulties to stay focused on it.

Art: 9.5/10
I am not really objective on this point, but this is the exact art style I love: perfectly clean, not too much details or too few. Actually some elements are really detailed and some others are just simple clean shapes. Maybe a little bit too focused on the characters and not often enough on the environnement. Nevertheless it creates a great atmosphere.

Characters: 7/10
Good points: strong female lead, which is not that frequent, and, linked to the previous part, really good characters design in my opinion.
Bad point: since the story is quite short the characters do not get enough de development, it's harder to relate to them.

Enjoyment: 6.5/10
I liked this universe but I found it a little empty (as stated twice before, maybe due to the story lenght I think). That is the kind of creating I will remember as something I liked and found artistic but that will not leave a deep souvenir.

Overall: 8/10
I recommend it as I really liked it: it has a decent story and characters but especially a good athmosphere and a great art design even if not really original (problem is: art style appreciation is really dependant on the person)
