Solo Leveling review
my first review yall

Ok this manwha definetly does not deserve a 9/10 score just to get that out there. I think it gets that score because its easy to read and ignore all the faults that are really dragging this manwha's quality down. These faults are

The Charachters (3/10): The main character, sung jin-woo is kinda bland but he has some really cool "edgy" moments most of those are in the earlier sections of this story but he has some bad ass moments throughout. He also had some moments where he made me chuckle. Other than that he's not too interesting beyond his OP'ness. The other charachters in this manwha aren't worth the tasks of remembering their names which is already kinda hard for someone who has this as their first manwha (like me) because the names are korean. They basically only serve the purpose of praising the MC's power from around half way through the story . Chae hae-in, the only other character whos name i remember is only memeorable because shes supposed the love interest.

The Story: (3/10) The narrative is rather nebulous the MC has a goal which i wont say for spoilers but its not very captivating or even prevelant all he really does is grind. There are some questions about some one charachter that got me interested but they werent really touched on in this first season of this manwha. The last arc is pretty ok tho.

The Art:(10/10) This is definetly the selling point of the manwha aside from the MC OP'ness. Most battle scenes are so well drawn and portrayed they make me feel like im watcing an anime

Enjoyment(10/10) Despite the way I was shitting on this manwha before I still really enjoyed it and found it easy to not think about most of these problems before I finished this first season, so thats why im giving it a 7/10 overall its kinda like a "turn your brain off" thing.

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e review
Classroom of the Elite peaked at the first chapter. Yep, you’ve read that right, literally the first chapter is the best this novel has to offer, and it only goes downhill afterwards.

It offered interesting points about ethics and morality, piquing my interest in the series. Commendably so, as it managed to have meaningful content in a scene that’s just about whether to offer your seat in public transport or not. The problem is that this chapter is set in real world, while rest of the novel isn’t. Not to be misunderstood, Classroom of the Elite isn’t some sort of isekai, what I mean is that the core setting is a controlled environment clear of outside influence with a fake “society” set up. Which in turn makes the attempted portrayal at psychology of the character and social commentary fake also, as it doesn’t relate to actual realistic society.

Now, that could still work if the story had interesting characters that could engage in some intriguing chemistry. Unfortunately that is not the case. I’d like to start with the protagonist, who is the most interesting character in this novel, but that isn’t really saying much, just that the rest is much worse off. It’s an interesting concept – a character that looks average to the observers but is in fact very capable and hiding as an average joe is part of their calculations. It’s not an original idea, sure, but sounds interesting enough. The problem with Ayanokouji is that his character seems to be crafted this way just so the readers could roleplay and imagine themselves and someone who is actually not average like the reader is in reality but super great awesome person. Yep, the plague of light novel world, the blatant self-insert is in motion once again, together with the “lone wolf” aesthetics so popularized by Oregairu.

The problem with Ayanokouji is the difference between his character setting and his actual portrayal in the story. Exhibit A: to not attract unwanted attention he poses as an average student, intentionally hiding his true abilities. To do that he answer the test literally 50% correctly and to achieve that he answers some very difficult questions correctly while also failing some easy ones. This of course brings unwanted attention to him, the opposite of desired result. One doesn’t have to be genius to think of just simulating what an average result would mean, which does not mean literally 50% correct. Another example is more of a theme carrying though the whole novel than just one instance. You see, Ayanokouji’s behaviour as not so capable regular student is supposed to be just a camouflage, while his real personality is not regular at all. This idea crashes on the novel being told from his point of the view most of the time. He should have no need to continue this act in his inner thoughts but he is actually portrayed as boring character without interesting insights in the narration with just few exceptions. Those moments where his “true” personality comes out are good, but there’s just very few of them. I’m not against the concept of unreliable narrator and the mc appearing as normal to the reader even through his own narration up to the first reveal would be good writing, but there is no need to still keep his narration uninteresting for rest of the novel. There’s also the thing of lack of description of his mental process, but more about that later.

Another illogical character is Chabashira-sensei. A person that is described by an extreme desire for her class to be succesfull, but also letting her class to get the worst start ever, effectively shooting herself in the foot for no reason other than the feeling of emergency being added to the plot. Is she clumsy? Short-sighted? Or just forced to make blunders that contradict her real goals? Who knows, her character is a mess.

Rest of the characters can be grouped together. Why have I singled out Ayanokouji and Chabashira? Because those two are the only ones whose names I remember without looking up if I’m right. And for Chabashira it’s only because I think her name sounds funny. Yes, lot of the characters just kind of… merge together. Multiple times I had to look up a name to find out who is the novel even talking about. Now, I won’t lie, I’m usually bad with remembering names, but usually I can still differ between the characters. Here, most of the characters don’t have personality interesting or individual enough to be able to be identified by different means other then their names. That is not something that’s supposed to happen. Even if the reader is bad with names (and I’m hardly the only one who is), they should still be able to tell the characters apart.

This if course ties to the ultimate problem of Classroom of the Elite which is that the characters just didn’t intrigue me enough for me to care about what is happening to them. I didn’t become invested in the story and there is no character for which I could care less as to what would happen to them. Ultimately I couldn’t find any reason to continue reading this other than my completionist compulsion.

The story itself is way too cyclic. Most the volumes are just the school making some exam with stupid rules that end with the protagonist (sometimes with help of Horitaka) causing his class to survive the ordeal. There is no sense of emergency as you know that even if everyone is fucked it’s not like the protagonist is in any actual danger at being expelled (and it’s not like I’d care even if he did, the whole cast could drop dead and I would only rejoice I don’t have to read any more of this). I’d even go as far as to say that for most volumes you could read the start and the finally, completely skipping the middle part and you wouldn’t miss out on anything important. To come back at what I hinted in the character paragraph, the problem with Ayanokouji is also that the process of creating his plans isn’t exactly… described. He just has a plan that he came up with offscreen and is revealed to the reader at the end of the volume. We don’t see him struggle with making it or even thinking about creating it, he just magically poofs it into existence because he is a genius with answer to anything. This makes me think that the author is unable to write the process and he’s pretty much reverse engineering problems to solutions he himself wrote. Such is the problem when mediocre authors attempt to write a genius character, it just isn’t believable. This novel feels pseudointellectual in a sense that it tries to appear intelligent, but it also aims at average readers as the demographics, so it only has to maintain an illusion it is something of value instead of actually having to be well written. No offense to those that enjoyed this literary work.

Just as a small side note about the setting – the system of the school doesn’t even make much sense. It’s supposed to create/recruit elite that would stimulate the country. But it keeps trying to expel people that don’t excel in every way. Why is there a need for someone who wants to the best baseball player to complete the same requirements as a talented mathematician, and vice versa? I’d expect teaching methods more focused on individual value in a so called elite school. Like, you could face being expelled if you fail a damn glorified popularity poll lmao. Sorry to break it to you fictional version of Japan, but people that excel at literally everything are quite hard to find, to the point of it being a miraculous occurrence. Good luck filling a whole class with that. Well, it works in the world of Classroom of the Elite, because the classroom isn’t actually filled with elites – most of the students are pretty much regular people that are mooching of the leaders of classes to get through the school year with the help of schemes of somebody else. Is that what the future elite of the nation is supposed to be? I don’t think so. It’s actually funny how in comparison the system Hope’s Peak Academy makes much more sense if the goal is to bring up the best of future generation and nurture their talents (however tragically that ended up). And Danganronpa even doesn’t take itself seriously all the time unlike Classroom of the Elite (and thanks for that, as it gives it its unique charm).

And as more of a footnote about the illustration, do the spreads really have to be so fanservicey? I know that illustrations sell, but reducing the characters to their racks isn’t exactly helping with portrayal of the story as something of value. No surprises here though, as other works by the artist are mostly straight out porn.

Originally I was going to give this 6/10 because, well, it’s not exactly bad, it just isn’t isn’t good either. Then I thought about how much I had to force myself through most of the volumes, how I didn’t look forward to reading more at all and how it just felt as a waste of time, so I felt it would be unfair to put it on the same level as some of the other titles I’ve rated with 6/10. So 5/10 it is. If you want to read something with intellectual battles full of scheming and outsmarting, there’s plenty of other works like that, some of them even being actually good. Death Note being the most popular one, there’s also Legend of the Galactic Heroes for which the original novel doesn’t get nearly enough attention it deservers or for example works by Fukumoto Nobuyuki in general. If you want something about a character that looks generic on the outside but is in fact highly irregular, there’s Zaregoto Circle by NisiOisiN. All those examples actually portray mind process of the protagonists, and that's how mentally gifted characters should be written. Of course, if you’re satisfied just with characters magically outsmarting everyone effortlessly because the author said that they are supposed to be smart, you can go watch Code Geass or something.

ANAMORPHOSIS NO MEIJUU review
Trigger Warnings: nudity, sexual content, severe gore, brief rape mentions, beastiliaty

Anamorphosis no Meijuu is an ero-guro horror manga by Shintaro Kago. The first half of this features a sick, twisted horror-detective game that leads the reader guessing many things about the story. The second half is made up of one-shots of different horror genres.

The first story was actually pretty thrilling. Unfortunately, I've gotten quite used to guro manga portraying something as one way when it was completely the over - the manga that taught me this was actually Fraction by Kago himself. I was a little disappointed that, although I didn't know what was going to happen specifically to this story, I knew that he wasn't portraying it as clearly as the reader thinks.
It's an interesting concept; people are invited to play a game. Inside, they are taken to a model crime scene, exactly how it was upon when the victims died. The spirit is summoned and the guest must survive forty-eight hours within the set. Those that make it are given a split prize between sixty million Yen.
However, of course, there's a catch.

This story was pretty well done. I don't think it was as good as I would have liked it; it focuses more within detective work than the actual horror aspect of it itself, which was a little bit of a letdown for me. This was actually recommended to me as a specific horror manga, so for it to turn out to be most riddles and crime (along with some decent body horror art), I wasn't really entertained. I read this in the mood for horror which is probably why my rating is lower than the majority of guro manga I've rated so far.

The one-shots in this, however, have some potential. Although some are explicitly gross and are pretty much nothing more than drawing sexual scenes (although I do find it hilarious how the author is able to draw explicit scenes, and they can't seem to say vagina nor penis within the writing), some did hold potential. Specifically, Beyond and Weightless held some laughs and some pretty decent body horror.
However, I feel like, as stated before, most of them were just an excuse to draw explicit sexual situations just for the sake of it. The stories did have a humour to them, and perhaps you need to be able to find the dark side of comedy to be able to fully enjoy them. If these were all split up in between different manga collections, I think they would have been better off than having content one after the other after the other. It seemed a little disjointed, and some didn't seem to make sense at all.
A little infuriating, but the two mentioned definitely made the read worth it.

I'm a little off-put from Kago after this. I'm going to read the remaining works I'm able to, but I feel a little disjointed and uneasy after reading this one through.

Kanojo-tachi no Saishuu Teiri review
This is a manga that's almost good in several ways. But it just doesn't make the cut in any of them.

The story starts simple: a reasonably popular boy seduces a beautiful young teacher and the pretty class rep, making them both eager to have sex with him. Most of this manga tells that simple story from the perspective of each of the three people involved--all of whom see it from a very different angle.

It's an interesting premise (tell the same tale from three different perspectives that make it seem like three very different things are going on)... and it's done okay. Not wonderfully--mostly because all three of them are kinda jerks, and so I have trouble caring a lot about a plot whose basic premise is three jerks screwing each other--but I can appreciate the concept.

After that, though, the plot keeps going, and just runs itself off the rails. Maybe it got axed, and so the explanations were never printed? That's the only thing I can think of.

So, if the characters had been a bit more likable, the first 3/4 of the manga might have made for an interesting perverted romance.

If the sex had been more thoroughly drawn, it might have made a good hentai manga. (Where the plot standards are lower.)

If the plot had continued and gotten more interesting, maybe it might have made for an interesting psychological drama... at least, that's the direction it seemed like it was headed before it abruptly ended.

As is, however, it's just a hot mess. Best avoided.

Chapter 19 (vomits) here....

Story 4:
Comedy - Well it's a long cliched stretch but it can be considered "comedy", but its a humor made for females with lesbian tendency (who dislike men and think they are beasts), also it would be funny for me at some point of life (age 8-13, maybe), but at this state i was grossed out by everything here. In short i didn't smile but contrary to that i had an expression and feeling of disgust. Too much cliched humor, too much stupid actions and too much man beating to the point where you can say that it is physical abuse.
Ecchi - Well on that part this manga didn't well short, fan service is everywhere and made from everything this whole manga holds you by the "balls", if it weren't for ecchi scenes i think this manga would have been axed after few chapters, but it holds the secret weapon - WEAPON X - X stands for mindless part of male biology, you could say a beast inside who will watch and his arousal will give it a rating of 10, simply because brain was shut off. And no i wasn't aroused a single time, reading this i felt if i will get aroused just a little bit i will lose my dignity as a human being and as a male for that part. But nevertheless ecchi was and is the only redeemable part of this fiasco.
Seinen - Don't make me laugh, it is a shounen wrapped in a thin layer of seinen, since unreality and childish actions here are over the roof not once did i think of this as to be considered for young males (a definition of seinen for crying out loud) Shounen, yes it is one but simply with erotic content.
Story is about young, stupid, perverted, without any speck of dignity male who wants to become mangaka having 0 talent for it while constantly being physically and mentally abused by everyone (due to his perverted mind and simply because he is convenient stress reliever). Then there are 3 main females, 2 being older than mc (i think) and one a high schooler. We have a Sensei a woman with voluptuous body a genius a Mary Sue who lives in her world, then we have a same body (older mentally) female nothing too special about her if you think, she is over shadowed by our Mary Sue and then we have this annoying high schooler, annoying due to being "frugal" but in reality is a more mild persona than our MC, she is allowed to being a pervert since she is a girl ohh did i mention her yuri/lesbian vibe (probably due to being still immature not because she is a lesbian) either way she is a female version of MC with less pervy mind and more talent.
Jokes are annoying, degrading (both for male and females), cliched to the max and repetitive.

Art 9:
Art was magnificent, character drawings were very erotic and seemed unreal and real at the same time, this was borderline H but either way character were drawn to be good looking (sadly with oversized chests), background was somewhere near the level of character detail, panels and dialogue bubbles were more or less decent, can't be over-objective since it was hard to concentrate on manga (being it a trash bin) but nonetheless Art was the only redeeming quality here.

Characters 4:
One dimensional, progression 0. When you think story will progress at the end of the chapter it goes backwards at the next chapter (by story i meant that maybe character will learn something, improve or reflect....NO they won't (he specifically). One dimensional, well they don't change the stick it to one shtick to the end, change is nonexistent here it will lure you at the chapter end but then revert back if not go backwards.
MC chapter 1 ohh look a decent chap, midway through chapter my thoughts - This will be pain ridden read. I had one chapter that i liked, when MC decided to leave (since damn bro it took a long time for you to understand that you need to improve and change something) Next chapter midway through he became worse. High school girl is simply MC with boobs and less testosterone ohh also she has somewhat a talent for drawing manga, end (nothing to add here)
Supporting characters are well supporting characters made for gags and lulz (also in one chapter to understand Female MC's Mary Sueness - that being to the bone and core of her brain)

Enjoyment 3:
I didn't enjoy anything here besides Art (even that was degrading but still better than bland romcom drawings), every chapter game me chills (due to it being so awful). I wanted to castrate MC and put him in a monastery on a deserted island as for females wanted to beat them to unconscious state (a simple revenge for being so abusive towards MC when one could say you are fired they find it better to beat him up, humiliate and to tease (if you don't want a male advancing to you don't fu**ng tease him in a erotic way) and then transport them all to monastery on the deserted island the high school girl needs to go to a different island since it will be a paradise for her until puberty dies off.

Overall 4:
If you like 0 brain activity male lead with only activity below the waist who has 0 dignity as a human being, if you like females who beat up males for a reason and lack of it while being hypocritical to the core and teasing to the max be my guest read this if not then DO NOT READ THIS, here's a better manga:
It is called "Comic Studio" same genre + romance, same story concept (MC wanna be mangaka goes to become mangaka assistant also 3 females - older one, female MC (physically a loli though) and a high school girl. This manga doesn't have fan service or at least at the disgusting level, character development and story progression guaranteed, ending is fantastic. This manga was released in 2010 while this garbage bin in 2009 i think mangaka from Comic Studio stole an idea (or maybe there was even an earlier classic one as a template), but even if it was he made it everything better (art no included).

Story: 3

This manga confused the hell out of me. I was never really sure what was going on. Most of it felt like it was a bunch of random scenes taped together and called a story.

If you ever meet a weeb who thinks all manga are amazing. Prove them wrong with this.

That being said though, I did like the concept. It could have been better, and much less confusing if it had been stretched out over several more chapters to give the creator time to weave a proper story with their idea.

But as is, the pacing is so fast that it leaves the reader in the dust and none of my questions were answered.

Art: 3

It was okay sometimes, but most of the time it looked pretty clunky.

Character: 1

There wasn't a single person in this manga that felt alive and I couldn't feel a connection if you paid me.

Enjoyment: 1

I spent the entire time reading it confused and wondering what was going on. Then it ends with my biggest question, left unanswered.

And you know what? I don't think there was actually meant to be a question over this thing I kept thinking about. The writing was just so vague it could have just been me being confused over nothing.

Overall: 1

Damn it, I really wanted to like this manga. The concept was cool. the art style wasn't the best, sure, but I was ready for it. It just flopped so hard..

Goodness, I've never written such a negative review before. Normally I'm all glowing with these. Hmmm. Another reason to hate this manga.
