One Piece review
I just don't see what makes One Piece revered as the greatest shounen manga of all time. I just don't. The characters are one-note caricatures with little to no development, the fights aren't particularly well thought out or interesting, and every arc plays out the same way so that, as you read further and further, you can predict the general direction of what happens.

However, I still found myself having some enjoyment of the series, although this enjoyment is now short lived as I've become used to the 'One Piece formula' and can't stand reading another arc that rehashes it. Which is why I probably won't be continuing with the series

Story: 6/10. Honestly the core of the series is pretty standard for a shounen: attaining a goal that requires a long journey. And for a while, that journey was interesting. The world-building was great, and arguably remains good, and early arcs really had a sense of urgency and merit. I felt like the characters were going to go somewhere. Yet as I read further and further, despite the occasional good arc or two, I was just given a bunch of empty promises and an empty crew.

Art: 3/10. I hate the art design of one piece. It's nonsensical and I can't take any of the situations seriously. I prefer the minimalist art of Togashi to this outlandish art.

Character: 4/10. Uninteresting. I feel so apathetic to every character, which is strange because usually I either love or hate a character. Yet every character in this show besides some villains are so one-note and forgettable (even among the main crew) that I just don't care.

Enjoyment: 7/10. This 'enjoyment' really only stems for the first 50 or 60 volumes. After that it's pretty much a 2-3/10 for me. But before that, the OP world was really interesting and there were some BANGER arcs. There were times where I quit the series out of boredom, but there were also times I read an arc in a day because it was just that good. Unfortunately, the story so far has been nothing but below mediocre for me.

Overall: 6/10. OP is a good time pass but you'll probably forget most of what you read because the story and characters are forgettable. Nothing in this series sticks with me except for some occasional moments.

U19 review
U19 is like shounen's first post-modern existential dystopian novel... but with art!

It might be too early to write a review for this, as only the first chapter has been released; however, I believe that this has the makings of a great story in a fairly unexplored realm of fiction. Really nothing quite happened so far: there was an introduction to the setting, a few characters, and what will probably become the main conflict of the series. The setting is probably the most interesting: in the near future, after Japanese students' academic performance had been dropping rapidly, a Political party, the Grown-Ups Party, rose to power, re-instituted corporal punishment in schools, and redid the academic system to force students to be placed into castes after their 20th birthday Adult Admission Test. The contemporary dystopian setting really excited me, but the characters and conflict just don't seem to mix well with the setting. A hotheaded MC and a bland conflict and a premise that would make Thomas Pynchon proud is like oil and water, but U19 is a shounen and it might serve to deepen the author's intention.

The art is really good. The faces especially great given that they're expressive and we immediately feel what the mangaka wants us to feel. The color pages also look like they were done with colored pencil; a look that I think I enjoy.

The characters are what I liked least about U19, but I feel that the contrast of adults' and students' personalities and expressions might actually serve to further the simulacrum that the characters live in.

I gave this a high enjoyment score simply because this series really does have the ability to be a stepping stone to heavier Post-modern fiction. If this even piques your interest in that realm, definitely check out Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49, a short book, or Don DeLillo's White Noise, which is quite a bit longer.

Tomogui Kyoushitsu review
This is truly a manga that might disgust you a lot but you might still fall in love with this - as I did.

Story: For starters, the plot wasn't progressing well and it seemed like ehh everyone is just getting themselves killed. I mean everything was just a mess but there was something that got me to continue reading. And if I might say, it was really a good decision! As the story goes on, there's more development. Characters started to find the reasons behind everything and that way the reader too got more information which is why you can't just stop reading this in the midway!!

Art: The art is truly fantastic!! It supports the plot perfectly and makes the best versions of the characters. However, there are also some parts I might wouldn't want this art to show like there are a bit too nasty moments which make you feel like you're about to puke.

Characters: To be honest, there's way too many characters. But the development between certain characters is just amazing! It doesn't happen in the beginning but bit by bit they're getting better. On top of that there's also more information coming from the characters' backgrounds which helps the story to go on.

Enjoyment: I hate this manga, yet I love it. I guess you get what I mean? It's the kind of manga you just have to read, it disappoints you, it gets your hopes up, it gets you scared, it makes you angry. This gives the reader so many different feelings that it's definitely worth a try!

Koi wa Misoji wo Sugite kara review
As the title indicates, Love is for those Over 30 is a Mature, Ecchi, Romance, Slice of Life dealing with the issues of love transcending an age gap; however these issues are so minor, they may fail to arouse your interest.

Sakura Uehara is a hardworking OL (office lady) who’s done nothing but work her ass off, ever since leaving high school, which has left little to no time to forge any romantic relationships. Soon into the story (well a bit too soon) she becomes well acquainted with the new office employee named Yuu Yamada, who’s fresh out of college and in need of some guidance. Despite their age difference they unsurprisingly develop a relationship and they live happily ever after… the end. Now the problem with the story is that it’s too much of a slice of life, with nothing out of the ordinary happening to spice up the romance. It’s just like reading yourself living your own boring life; if you could pry yourself away from a computer long enough to get a job and find a partner. The story is simply about the capable but inexperienced couple, in love, doing what most adult couples do and they do it a lot.

Maybe I shouldn’t have said all that because I’ve pretty much spoilt the entire 6 chapters to anyone who’s interested… oh well… now unto the characters, who are a delightful bunch. Well as delightful as a bunch of 20-30 year old office workers can be. Although it’s really only Sakura & Yuu that you need to care about, since the other characters get as much attention as my dead goldfish. The pair may have some good chemistry with each other but the same cannot be said about their development.

Nevertheless one good thing has developed and that’s Ryuta Amazume’s artistic skill. The artwork is the real stunner of this manga and it’s amazing how much the mangaka has improved over the years. Now not only is he able to draw realistic characters, with similar designs from his other works, but he’s able to portray the style of the said characters from the particular outfits he gives them.

Yet in the end this is a shallow attempt at a good romance, which is sadly overshadowed by tits & ass. It looks gorgeous but is extremely shallow. Themes like the office working environment and the mild stigma around relationship age gaps are barely touched upon, whereas too much emphasis is on the sex. If that’s all you’re looking for, then you’ll come out feeling satisfied but it sure as hell wouldn’t satisfy any of you hardcore romance lovers.

Fated to Love You review
This is something I usually don’t do at all, but this manhwa does not have a review, which is my reason for this but usually I only review ones I really Like. I had a problem with this manhwa ~ Fated to Love You, serious issues. I don’t think there are too many male leads I’ve disliked as much as the guy in this manhwa.

Yes, I pretty much Hated the male lead. Yes, I’ve read many where the guy transforms from a jerk with “the power of love”: sometimes that is good like in Hana Yori Dango or and sometimes it annoys me, but really this is pushing it. The redemption just does not equal the bullying. The female lead, Chen Xin Yi, is sooo hopeless that she puts up with him too, and yes she does have her reason, she is pregnant so forced into her choice, but still, get a backbone girl. So it has the cliché of the male bully she is forced to marry, but it doesn’t stop there. Cun Xi has another girl too, and her treats the female lead like she is worthless even though she is pregnant with his own kid. Chen Xin Yi, is too nice for her own good.
This is not a spoiler as it says she is pregnant in the synopsis.

And yes it also has the cliché of a second male who is like night and day to the first one, he is such a better choice that I can’t forgive her for not realizing that and leaving the lead jerk. He is like a saint compared to the jerk. So I couldn’t really see her staying with the lead when she knew how bad he was. I think the second guy would have loved her even if she was pregnant…

I don’t see recommending you to read this except if you want to study the problems with some stories or what girls are forced to go through because of society norms, or if you really like seeing the character you are supposed to feel for treated badly or something. Yes, I know that many girls are forced to marry guys they don’t love because of pregnancy. So I know about the problems that women face because of pregnancy and society. It is a good example of the girl making a bad choice of a partner and letting the guy do whatever he wants since he’s a man, and it does show transformation later in the story that is typical of this type of stories, but please you have been Forewarned.
Sorry. I think just watching the Drama version would be better.
I guess it is a 6, as it’s not that far from typical of this type and the characterizations are well done for a girl in a bad situation, and the art is not bad either nor is the writing bad actually and it does have humor. I did read the whole thing. But it was that I could not enjoy reading it.
So, It was mostly the main guy that ruined this for me personally.

Tokyo Marble Chocolate review
I like josei more than shoujo, but there doesn't exist a lot of (good) josei, so when I find it I like to share :). This is a story of two characters, written from their pov and share one thing in common- wrong timing for confessing their love. It is good balance that the stories r presented from the pov of a girl and a boy. Thus giving readers an insight into both gender's psyche, the insecurities they feel, their unrequited love, their cowardice and finally how they r moving on (or trying to) instead of staying in one place.
Story 8- First story is from the girl's prespective, Chizuru, who's been in an unrequited love for her childhood friend (Kazuom Tomojii). We see Chizuru and Kazuomi spending/passing together bc he's waiting for his gf. Chizuru knows that he doesn't love her and if she confesses to him she'd just destory their freindship, but she can't stop herself from confessing at the end of the day. Her story (love) ends with her looking from the tokyo tower (which is significant at the end) thinking surely somewhere her someone special exists and she wants to meets him.
The second story is from Yuudai's pov, who is best friends with Tsujii and Hiro (with whom both r in love with). Because Yuudai is scared to confess to Hiro, confesses to her later but Tsujii had confessed to her earlier, so she goes out with him. Yuudai hasn't been able to get over his cowardice ever since and have a steady relationship. Hiro says that if Yuudai had confessed earlier then she would've gone out with him instead and at a class reuniion, after talking to Hiro and Tsujii he's able to get over his cowardice/love.
One other thing that the both stories have in common is that the persons the main characters loved, thank them and say they were happy to be confessed by them. Confirming that if they'd confessed at the right time then maybe they'd have had a happier ending.
The stories r not much for plot, as much as being more of a slice of life and look at unrequited love. Their stories move forward, the characters develop, mature and try to find their special someone somewhere again. But this time they know to be more honest and have moe confidence.
Art 8- I don't know much about manga art terminology or art in general, so I'll say it in simple words. Art is plain, fine lines used and typical josei art used in romance genres. It grows on you after a couple of pages, I liked it very much and found it better than bishie drawn (i.e. Hapi Mari).
Character 9- In just two chapters (one for each ), surprisingly both characters develop very nicely and at a realistic pace. I liked that Chizuru and Yuudai still carried the heartache from their first love, but their heartaches have been given a proper ending so they know they can still be happy and have someone special for them somewhere. I love these types of characters, who're realistic and learn to move one, instead of wallowing in self pity of unrequited love. In some josei romance, I hate it the most when the girl still has the same sort of mentality as a shoujo girl. It's josei for a reason, with older females aimed at older women. This manga, for me, illustrates the perfect type of character portrayal of older women.
Enjoyment 8- I enjoyed it very much that I have read it two times in two days. After finishing it, I found myself still thinking about the characters and the story. It stays in your head (at least in mine) for a while, which isn't a bad thing.
Overall 8- I wish it were longer, maybe one more chapter. But other than that it's a perfect manga with a great story and characters.
I would like to recommend it anyone who's looking for a good romance and drama manga. It'll probably take you 20mins to finish the two chps and they wouldn't be 20 mins wasted. I wish there would exist more works like this one.
