Domestic na Kanojo review

I said it before and I'll say it again, Sasuga Kei-Sensei is one of the best mangaka ever. This manga, I read over what I think was about three days, was definitely one of the best reads of my life. I had watched the anime a long time ago and thought nothing more of it besides how great it could be if it was continued, until 2 months later I found that there were over 200 chapters of unused manga left to go with the story. Of course this just means I started from the beginning, and read all the way up to the end... and I'm glad I did; The first 80 chapters that did get adopted into an anime had so much more content that simply was left out I was genuinely surprised. Just like Sasuga sensei's last work "Good Ending", there was a gap between chapter 90 to around chapter 115 where it seemed like the story wasn't progressing in the way it should have been, this all fixes quickly though, starting with Rui becoming a chef, Then natsuo going to college, then everything with the drama club Togen-Sensei, Rui in New York City, Tanabe(Hina's Stalker), Hina's 'incident'. When Sasuga Kei dragged out her last work, "Good Ending", there was a point where everything was so pathetic it was like it was written by a completely different author, less emotion, less plot development, the rushed ending, etc... But during her time writing Domestic na Kanojo, I can honestly say that she nailed it in comparison(And I still gave Good Ending at 9/10).

The ending was so odd and unpredictable I didn't know whether I should've been mad at Rui and Natsuo, or happy for Hina; But when it's all said and done the ending was actually really well crafted given the situation from which the Anime/Manga started. Going in to the manga, long after watching the anime I was totally 100% #TeamRui but as the story went on I changed my opinion about this, even if only slightly. By around the 160ish chapter I had decided that both girls had their strong points and weak points and that neither of them was completely better than the other. I never really liked the situations that Natsuo had with Hina, all though I like Hina as a character. Where as with Rui, I like their time together and find it really fun and refreshing to read.

With manga, all though the story is better and there is more content, I could never really pull the same feelings out of a work, the way I can with anime, but this story was different, after I had gotten past my initial feelings of frustration and critique I realized that it all ties together well and makes the story great. Rui's philosophy of fate was extra interesting to see at the end of the manga, seeing as she was the most overprotective of Natsuo throughout their relationship; All though I can't say I'm a huge fan of seeing Natsuo and Hina in bed together again, I probably could've realized from the start that that was the way it was going to end up.

I cried to a manga for the first time ever in chapter 256, when after all that had happened, Natsuo could write again in the stead of Togen-Sensei after his death. Happy tears of course. | Despite EVERYTHING you just read above, I will always think that Rui x Natsuo is the best ship of the main characters, and will never be tarnished. --- *Everything I said above are just personal thoughts of course, and anyone who's read this far has either read it before, or is interested. If this is the case then my only advice as for how to enjoy it as best possible is to be open minded; Even to the things that some people would call NTR(netorare), and also to the many moments worthy of being called hentai, if you allow your personal opinions to be tested while reading this, I promise you will enjoy this story.

-I rated 'Enjoyment' a 9 instead of a 10 for three reasons; 1) Even though they had a kid, I still wanted to see Rui x Natsuo in the end, not Hina x Natsuo. 2) At certain points I felt frustrated by things that developed in the story one of the main points being the character's ignorance. "I like him but I can't confess," "I have to take her feeling into account," etc... This caused lots of misunderstandings, dragged on plot, and unwanted "Screen time". 3) I honestly think everything from the art, to the story, to the characters are worthy of a 10/10 rating same for the Overall, but it wasn't a perfect story, because it wasn't a perfect story I had to debunk something even if only a little.
