I really love the Death note series and L has to be my favourite anime character of all time so I really wanted to read this and I wasn't disappointed at all.
This did take me a while to read but it was worth the emotions and tears.
*Small Spoilers but not to many*

Story:
The story is centred around L Lawliet, the world's greatest detective who has 23 days to live after writing his name in the Death note after catching Kira. He has his final days to solve a case about a mysteries virus that could wipe about humanity, he also has the task to take care of a girl named Maki. With only a short amount of time left and people after him along with a virus being carried, L's final task has to be a difficult one.
Story 10/10

Character:
L, is generally a cold and calm character who doesn't let anything get in his way, but as he takes care of Maki he wants to protect her as much as he can even with everything that is going on, L is really sweet and kind in this novel treating Maki like a younger relative.
Also to see L in the final few chapters brings me to tears.

Overall enjoyment:
Am I glad I read this? Yes.
The story is beautiful and the way if is presented is amazing. Also the film making of it is amazing too, I recommend them both. (You will have to watch or read Death note for you to understand what is happening) But overall this was a excellent read.
