Resumo
It's about two best friends, Tamio and Takashi. The development of a friendship to something more as they grow up.
Living his life in rural Japan, Tamio is immediately intrigued by Takashi, the blond haired city boy who transfers into his elementary school. But Takashi is actually half Japanese, and despite his appearance he doesn't even know English and loves eating Japanese food even Tamio can't abide.
Tamio and Takashi become friends, and despite his perplexity with Takashi's foreign appearance, Tamio quickly develops a strong attachment to the other boy. Tamio earnestly hopes that he and Takashi can stay friends forever. But Takashi remains dissatisfied with life out in the boonies, insisting that someday he's going to leave all this behind.
Yet Tamio continues to hope and to do anything he can to ensure that Takashi will stay with him--or take him along--no matter where he goes in life, with an intense, endearing, wistful sincerity perhaps telling of sentiments more complicated than Tamio might think.

Bokutachi Otokonoko review
Spoiler-free. The whole manga feels like a bad trip. It's just weird, chaotic and... well, bad. Weird elements really makes you think stuff like "I wouldn't want to be this mangaka's neighbor, god knows what's in their head", it may sound intriguing for some, but it's the creepy eery kind of weird with a good pinch of cringe. And about the 'shounen ai' tag... it's like, this manga tries to be josei, slice of life, comedy, shounen ai, all at once... but fails. 'Shounen ai' is what loosely stitches this bloody mess together... or, like I said, tries to.
Art is somewhat interesting in the first volume I think... closer to the end it becomes worse, interestingly enough. Characters... *sighs* let's not go there (there is nowhere to go). Enjoyment... after the final chapter you end up feeling guilty for the hate crime against yourself, does it sound enjoyable to anyone. Well sometiimes there is a funny moment, but usually it's a trash kinda fun which adds to the severity of the hate crime previously mentioned. Anyways I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on this weird garbage. |
Bokutachi Otokonoko review
Usually, when I see manga published before I was born (pre-1995) I run a mile. Usually because the art is pretty damn rubbish (I'm a massive art freak. I love beautifully drawn manga), and I don't get any contextual references... But for some reason, I started reading this manga, and i'm so glad I did.
Despite its obvious lack of beautiful art, the story so far (up to chpt.14) has been page turning. I literally couldn't stop reading until my eyes felt like they were going to fall out. The two main characters have such amazing and captivating personalities, who don't seem to be the usual uke/seme roles. The manga contains the perfect mix of comedy, drama and enthralling plot, plus the gradual, but obvious transition of Friends> BFFs> Bromance> Boyhood crush> Something more... is so cute and perfect. I'd recommend it for anyone and everyone, even if shounen-ai isn't your thing. |
