Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
Story 7/10
The story is pretty much non-existent but the jokes are well written and nicely spaced out in between the pages which makes it an enjoyable read. The premise is quite funny which is the reason I even started it in the first place. If you played any mmos or tabletops and you wondered what would be the game if you just maxed out your char with the starting mob then you can get a good feel with this manga. Art 5/10 it feels out of place that a 17 year old character looks like a 12 year old. Character 6/10 they are stereotypes but they fill their purpose for the jokes that are happening. Enjoyment 8/10 Its a lighthearted feelgood manga. It reads fast and easy. In a 2-3 hours I have read all the current material that is out (26 chapters) Overall 6/10 If it weren't for the lolis I would enjoy it more. |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
I really wanted to love this manga, and when reading the summary of it and the first few chapters I really did. In fact, that initial enjoyment made me give this a 9 for the longest time and is also the biggest reason for why I’m now writing a review. However, ‘I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxes Out my Level’ changed as the manga went on and went from more of a relaxing, slow paced story about a girl, after dying from overworking, who wants a redo of life and to enjoy it and her struggles to maintain that quiet, peaceful life,
to a yuri-styled family theme of her protecting her ‘family’. Perhaps it’s only my fault for expecting that initial theme to go on, and I understand how it can be difficult and perhaps boring to write a story based solely on that, but those chapters where it did cooperate those themes of slowing down in life, of a second, better chance in life and to enjoy it to the fullest really were very enjoyable to me. The new theme that the manga now closely follows, of a solely female household where they’re all ‘family’ and it’s strictly based on the relationship between them, although it sounds nice and isn’t such a bad plot to follow, wasn’t terribly implemented well and really leaves a bad taste to my mouth. I wish that they simply stuck with this theme and build off of it, making a feel-good type of slice-of-life isaeki manga,
However, do not let that fool you to believe that this manga is all bad. ‘I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxes Out my Level’ is enjoyable throughout to read, even after the transition in theme, and I’m sure that if you enjoy family-oriented stories you will enjoy it much more than I did. Perhaps to some of you this change in theme is actually when the story got much better and more enjoyable and becomes a 9 or a 10 to you. For someone like me, who rates anime and manga bashing on a 5 being average, a 7 being very enjoyable, and a 10 for a masterpiece that I will remember forever, a 6 is not a poor score at all. I simply wish that they stuck with the initial theme and built from there. The manga simply just doesn’t stuck with what I believed it did incredibly well and instead followed a path it delivered more mediocrely on, which is the reason for my 6. TLDR: The beginning of ‘I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxes Out my Level’ was based on the rebuilding of a life of a girl and her enjoying life to the fullest, and I really, really enjoyed this theme. However, the theme changed as the manga went on, and got progressively worse for me. Netherless this manga is still an enjoyable read, especially if you enjoy family-oriented themes. *For clarification, I have never read the light novel version of ‘I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxes Out My Level’; this review is strictly based on the manga* |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
I mean it's not particularly bad, it's just not very good either.
So what I'm saying is you might enjoy this if you like cute-girls-doing-cute-things / moe-blob shows. Story: 4/10 Unaging girl has been getting ~50 exp every day for the past 300 years, so now she's max level and very powerful, but she doesn't care, all she wants to do is laze around peacefully. We've had more or less 3 arc now and all of them have gone more or less like this: > Knock knock on the door. > A X shows, lighty bothering Main-character-chan and demonstrating/announcing a problem to come. > Some time passes. > Problem to come shows up and challenges mc to a battle. > Problem to come fails by herself (spoiler alert: no guys). > Turns out she's not a bad girl. > Pass time and repeat. At least this fits the theme. Art: 5/10 It's a somewhat-round-bubbly artstyle. Like slightly bubbly, but not enough to be particularly worth noting. But i am noting it here because there really isn't anything worth noting about it. It's nor good, nor bad. It's nor interesting, nor boring. It's nor detailed, nor minimalist. I could go on for a long time about what the artstyle isn't so i'm gonna stop. At least this fits the theme. Characters: 3/10 The lack of originality / interesting things hits the characters more than any other aspect of the manga. The main character is interesting for her simple desire to laze around peacefully, and then the rest of the cast manifests 2 or 3 personality quirks, but that's about it. not per character, split across. (continued in World) World: 3/10 The character designs (and the world that's conveyed through them) are especially boring. Dragon girl is a normal dragon in her dragon form and a normal cute girl + horns (sticks?) in human form. Slime spirit girl has no trait reminiscent of slimes or spirits. Elf girl is a normal cute girl with somewhat pointy ears. and BEELZEBUB, THE LORD OF THE FLIES AND ONE OF THE ELDEST DEMONS OF THIS REALM is a normal cute girl with horns and slightly darker skin. Not even good horns too. Trust me, i know my horns. When they noted the title of LORD OF THE FLIES i was expectant, thinking this might turn out as an interesting character. Yeah, i know i'm naive. For the rest of world building, we haven't really gotten anything yet besides the start and character introduction, but i'm sure we'll get more as the manga goes further. Theme: 6/10 Effortlessness. Now, now, that's not pejorative, let me just explain. The whole vibe of the manga turns around the idea that persistent, patient effort is much better both productivity-wise and health-wise than straining, rushed effort. And that is already conveyed expertly in countless ways throughout the mere 9 chapters. Gotta give praise where praise is due, in that aspect the manga is one step above most anime/manga. The problem here is that this theme turns into a double-edge. It's BECAUSE Azusa (just checked the mc's name) refuses to leave her home that problems come to show up at her doorstep (literally) and the very things that make this story bad are the embodiment of this general theme. Repetitive plotlines, boring art, unoriginal characters and world, it's like the author just filled in countless blanks with "meh, i'll figure it out later". Then again, "persistent, patient effort is much better both productivity-wise and health-wise than straining, rushed effort" so maybe it'll get better as it goes on. At chapter 31 i'll delete this review and write a new one. Or maybe I'm the problem, maybe I just can't get it because I'm an autistic NEET who hasn't worked a second of his life since he dropped out of high school 2 years ago. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ . Overall: 5.16 / 10 0.12 worth of bad 0.28 worth of good Recommendation & Closing Statements: If you haven't read it yet i think "Kobayashi's dragon maid" is better (horn-wise included). If you have read it then i think you can read "While Killing Slimes for 300 Years, I Became the Max Level Unknowingly". Humanity will end in the next 20 years, so don't overwork yourselves, ok buddies? |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
First of all this story intended to people who:
- Love isekai with magic and stuff - Long for peaceful quiet life theme - Love loli girls If you prefer serious complex story, epic battles, deep character development, and balanced demographic characters. Like avatar TLoA, naruto, etc, then I guarantee this isn't you cup of tea. Story: This story focused at serving an utopia to people whose life is similar to the main character (corporate slave who yearn for a peaceful slow life). Live in a quiet house by the grassy hills near a friendly village with her family simply do simple chores everyday happily. That's all as conflicts resolved very quickly in almost clique-ed way sadly. Art The drawing is pretty simple. Not very detail but still beautiful. We can still able to grasp the character's feeling and atmosphere. Character: There isn't much about the character sadly. The MC is an OP witch whose wish is only to live peacefully. Her friends are girls whom she met as the story go, in sadly not really interesting conflicts. All the MCs are demographically too focused to cute girls to the point it's very noticeable. Enjoyment: The story in my opinion only appealing to people I mention above. The attraction of this manga basically are: beautiful magical isekai world, cute girls, peaceful life in the beautiful isekai. |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
In a nutshell
Modern day, Japan. Azusa Aizawa is a salarywoman; she has completely forsaken everything that makes a life enjoyable: fun and love for her mean absolutely nothing. One day, she had to work fifty consecutive days and barely got any sleep. This, indeed, caused her a huge damage for her health, which resulted in her death. A moment later she noticed either an angel, or a God that took pity on her and promised her to fulfill any wish that she would have. Azusa asked for immortality that was a wish she was not thinking about, it was simply the first thing that came to her mind and she uttered it. The God agreed to fulfill her wish and after that Azusa found her in a new world. And so her new life begins. Story Story wise, the manga hardly has anything new to offer to the reader. Azusa Aizawa had quite an unfortunate life. Thankfully, some God notices her and decides to reward her. Azusa gets teleported into a new world, where she is finally able to enjoy her life to the fullest. For 300 years, she does the same things over and over again: killing slimes that are near her home, making medicine for country people, enjoying food and just doing whatever she wants, when she wants. After 300 years, she does not even notice that it has been so long already. She gets her power measured and notices that she is now a max level witch. Of course, it is difficult to keep secrets in a village; everyone knows everything about each other. Therefore, the villagers find out about the power of the witch, so do other people, as well as some powerful creatures. The secret about Azusa’s power is no longer a secret and so she will not be able to enjoy her quiet life anymore. Characters Characters wise, While Killing Slimes for 300 Years, I Became the Max Level Unknowingly has lovely characters, where even supporting characters are very entertaining. Azusa Aizawa, being reborn as a witch does not forget about her horrible previous life and always gets angry whenever her friends decide to overwork. She is a very caring person, which is the reason why so many people decide to follow her and want to be with her. Azusa aside, there are also many other interesting characters that will not leave you bored. Overall While Killing Slimes for 300 Years, I Became the Max Level Unknowingly is an isekai that does not have any epic fight scenes, or drama that will melt your heart. It is more of a heartwarming slice of life, with magic, demons, dragons and other monsters involved. It is actually a very good and relaxing manga, however, trying to read it in one go might be somewhat boring, so take your time. |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
So a year or two ago I started reading the first book and didn't like it but now that quarantine has started I read up to date and I absolutely love it and can't wait till the anime. I suggest this for ages 10 and up. This book is absolutely fantastic! I love it a lot because it has so many cool characters and the art looked the best I've seen. You should read the life novel it is an absolute game-changer. It started off slow but you'll like it once you get caught up. Personally, I think it's the best book I've ever read
and it has insane plot twists.

Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
Isekai is a genre with great potential.
That potential usually goes unfulfilled. 300 years a slime murder fulfills said potential. A staple of isekai is an OP protagonist, but what's holding most series back is that they fail to understand the appeal of it. "Our protagonist is OP, so the villain should be OP too" is the standard school of thought. Having an OP protagonist is the primary prerequisite of an action/slice of life story, because otherwise the action takes up too much space in the story and the protagonist being in real danger makes it hard to believe that it's someone's life. Add an OP villain and the only thing affected by having an OP protagonist is that the world is forced to be at stake (which is generally accepted as bad storytelling) and to give the girls in the harem something to swoon over. 300 years a slime murder has 6 fights up to where I've read. 2 end before they even start, 3 are over in one hit and the last isn't very long. This is perfect if you're like me and despise watching fights. This adds up to one roughly half-chapter long fight every 12 chapters. A series I recently dropped "Tensei Kyuuketsuki-san" bothered me because in the first 15 chapters it had like 10 fights. But of course, "not being an action series" is not good enough reason to praise a series. Most series aren't action series. - The series encourages the good practice of not overworking oneself. - "And then 300 years passed", reading that is an interesting experience. - In general, I find immortals interesting. It helps me put my life in perspective to contemplate the mindset of someone 300 years old. - The slime loli's are pretty cool. The most important thing though, is that this is an isekai series that doesn't make you sit through long and boring fights. Isekai and action being intrinsically tied together is tremendously infuriating, to see them separated in a series which passes basic competency checks is enough. |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
Reading the synopsis of this light novel, everyone will instantly know it is about isekai. But unlike any isekai that I've read or watched, the best thing about the main character, Azusa, is not simply overpowered instantly at the beginning of the story. She took 300 years to become so powerful that it caused her peaceful days to be disturbed.
Story: Each author has its own way of writing, and I absolutely love how Kisetsu Morita composed the story. It has this relaxing sensation as I turn each page, yet lead me wanting to know what happens on those each page although some of them can be predicted. Though there's some scenes that are a little bit exaggerating, but it didn't ruin the whole theme of the story. The story is told in first person viewpoint, which makes you feel you are the main character or you are reading her diary. The way the story is being told feels like their interaction are normal (as in how we are interacting in our daily life. Art: Benio has this unique character design and coloring skills that are truly representing Azusa's world and her laid-back life. Characters: Azusa, the main character, took 300 years to get to her highest level before any event in the novel start. Thus this is the reason the title of the novel are stated as such. This is a big win for me as opposed to most isekai main character that are instantly given overpowered magic, strength and skills. As a 300 years old, she is characterized as a mature woman with a body of a 17 years old teenage girl. This is another big favor for me because her attitude or behavior are in terms with her age. She didn't act childish and annoying but tried her best to avoid problems that can affect her laid-back life. As for the others, they are characterized in most average characteristics that I can see in other anime series. Nevertheless they help balanced Azusa and her life. Overall: In conclusion, I've enjoyed what the series had offered in its first volume and I am still enjoying whatever it offer in its second volume. The author wrote in a relaxing manner and pace, and the english publisher had translated it greatly (especially in the second volume in certain part of certain chapter). That relaxing pace made me comfortable reading it without feeling too much drag and forced myself to finish reading it. Since it focuses on daily life of Azusa and her small yet fun problems, don't expect it to be prioritize in too much combat scenes. If you are looking for relaxing stories, then you should try reading this light novel. |
Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita review
The story seems like a standard isekai in the beginning, but gets better as it goes on. The characters are all fun and full of life.
The story is about a girl who dies from overwork, and is given a chance to start over in another world to live a more laid back life. However, after 300 years of just killing slimes for money she finds that she is the strongest person in the world. Word spreads and her peaceful life is no more. People are all coming to her to test their strength and that's when the story truly begins. The art is amazing, and all the characters look great. This is one of my favorite light novels, because it's not like a basic isekai where people only care about becoming heroes in the new world. There is quite a bit of comedy in it and I recommend this series to anyone looking for something new to read. |
