Resumo
Kou Yamori seems like a typical middle school student on the surface. Relatively good at studies and amiable with his classmates, he puts a lot of effort into maintaining this facade. One day, however, he decides to stop pretending and quits school, developing insomnia as a result of having no daytime outlet for his energy. When taking walks alone at night, he feels marginally better, though he is aware that his inability to sleep should be considered a serious problem.
On one such walk, Kou meets a weird girl, Nazuna Nanakusa, who diagnoses the cause of his sleeplessness: despite making changes in his life, he is still holding himself back from experiencing true freedom. She says that he won't be able to sleep unless he is satisfied with how he spends his waking hours. When it appears that she has resolved his current worries, Nazuna invites him back to her apartment to share her futon. After a while, unaware that he is only feigning unconsciousness, she leans over him—and bites his neck!

Yofukashi no Uta review
The story so far is soothing to read. It has a hint of comedy and a fun, cosy atmosphere.
The art is as good as it gets. Beautiful and detailed with a variation to a less detailed artstyle for funny non-serious scenes. Adding on to the mood. So far we have only been introduced to two main characters during 4 chapters. And a few side characters we don't really know much about. The girl instantly reminded me of Toga from my hero academia. The fuzzy short hair and a playful/slightly crazy personality. Im not making this a negative part, as this is instantly a character ive taken a liking for. The boy seems to have some backstory we don't know much details of yet, but is certainly an enjoyful character aswell. I am really looking forward to read the rest of this, but have not had any luck finding anywhere to buy them, wich i'd love to do in order to support it. |
Yofukashi no Uta review
I'll be upfront, this series has quickly become my new favorite Shounen Sunday series.
The description does not do the series justice. An amazing story of a boy who meets a vampire one late night while going for an evening stroll. She asks if he wants to be a vampire, and he finally knew what he wanted in life. Story: (8.9) The story is slice of life, to boarder line Shounen. At times it is just a boy and a girl hanging out talking, other times other vampires show up to try to steal Kou. I don't want to spoil to much, and it is still fairly new but it is going places! Art (9.9) I might be biased, I am a huge fan of Kotoyama's art. I love the way he draws, and the faces his characters make. It is expressive, yet at time just the right amount of basics. if that makes sense XD. The backgrounds are very good, not top-tier, but good. Character(9) The characters sell this series. They are fun, playful, enjoyable. Enjoyment (10) I love this series a lot. so yeah, I enjoyed it. Overall(9) I could see this series becoming a 10, but for now it's got a bit more to go. Kotoyama has really out done himself this time, and I can't wait for more! |
Yofukashi no Uta review
Sasuga Tokoyama-sensei. Favorite of all time.
It starts out as a 10/10 chill read. I won't talk about that much since you can see it from the earlier reviews. But man, did you ever expect this to be such a rom-com killer? It manages to be a slice of life, romance, mystery, and drama in different chapters. Hell, it even has a shounen chapter. Kotoyama really is exploring his ability to write in different types of genres, and it is amazing. He makes you love our main 2 characters in the beginning, and even the side characters are extremely likable despite the limited development given to them. I find it comparable to one-punch man, in how the side characters are lovable. Personally, I feel extremely biased since I am literally the MC of this: same age and "fuck school and the people there, except a few people I like" mindset. I loved Oregairu and Hyouka for their relatable protagonists, but this hits a whole new level of self-projection. The whole reason I like anime is to fantasize about different lives in worlds that don't exist. The story is fantastic; it reels you in with a slice of life/comedy/romance, but hits you with mystery, a sprinkle of shounen, and it has better world building that half the isekais out there rn. Art is superb, if you liked dagashi kashi at all, this delivers 10/10. Characters are all likable, much like OPM, enjoyment is out of the roof, and overall, you should read this. I talked a lot about self projection in MC, but that only has to do with the enjoyment of this manga. The story, art, and characters already make this a must-read for anyone sick of isekai "i became blah in another world" and rom-com "my senpai is my sister who's a guy." I won't compare this to something like Berserk or HxH, because the premises and the whole thing in general are so different. But that is basically why this is my favorite manga. |
Yofukashi no Uta review
I have one golden rule when it comes to reviewing anime and manga alike, which is to never give a score before the series is finished, because there's always a chance it will go to shit
but im willing to break that rule when it comes to this manga, because it's just too good the story starts off kinda uncompelling but it builds as the manga goes on. the art is also super detailed and very satisfying to look at. it's just so good. as for the characters in this manga? ohhhh they're so good man. the main characters in this manga are interesting and well developed. Nazuna is quirky and serves well as the foil to our MC, Kou. while Kou is kinda edgy and gloomy and Nazuna is bouncy and full of energy. Kou is pretty straightforward with what he says but Nazuna can't talk about love without blushing like crazy and that dynamic is really funny sometimes. and since our boi Kou is literally still a child (he's 14), the decisions he makes, and then the reflections on those choices make for really good writing. the side characters also bounce off really well with our main characters, they're well developed, and are pretty realistic; or as realistic as you can in a vampire manga. since the setting for the entire manga is during the night, characters can shed their uptight "daytime facade" as shown with the MC's homeroom teacher. this style of writing gives our side characters much more depth without excessive writing. I'm not really good at writing reviews and im trying my hardest to write this review without spoiling anything so just go read the manga it's really good 10/10 so far (I really hope I dont have to come back and rewrite this review) |
Yofukashi no Uta review
I stumbled upon this gem on Reddit about a few hours ago and I was pretty hooked.
The story follows Yamori Kou, a run-of-the-mill nihilistic teen who stopped going to school because it was boring. He's pretty introverted in the beginning until he meets our second main character, Nanakusa Nazuna who tells Kou about the fun of "Night Walking." The two have fun throughout the night and it eventually gets to the point of Nazuna inviting Kou back to her house. Now, you might be thinking: "I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going" but no. Instead, Kou is alarmed when he sees that she sucked his blood. Surprised, she tells him that she is a vampire and that his blood tasted the best. With his newfound rebellion against sleep, Kou asks Nazuna to turn him into a vampire; the catch being you have to fall in love with the vampire that bit you to become one. This story might sound like a cheesy run-of-the-mill romance about a vampire and a teen boy but it's really not. Each of the "arcs" are about different people encountering these two and them being taught the "art of Night Walking." It's a pretty relaxing manga all things considered, some of the characters I even wound up relating to. It's definitely a niche title, but give this one at least 5 chapters to see it's for you. Overall: 7.5 or 8/10 - Not outstanding by any means but I will definitely read more |
Yofukashi no Uta review
I'm so glad that I popped in to see people already reviewing this Manga, as I have no doubt it will be adapted into an anime.
While this title is very niche, involving vampires, exorcism, children's youth and adolescence, and puberty. A coming of age story where we sprinkle in the occult of Vampires, and what life during the night time is like. It offers a unique view on "what if vampires were cute girls, who aren't out the destroy human kinds, but just live life the way they want to... As cute girls and JKs." Okay so while that isn't the most captivating way to explain it, overlooking the part of the girl vampires, what is amazing is how they "turn people into servants, and turn people into fellow vampires" the unique view on day to day lives, how the art of sucking blood works, and the lack of intense and on-a-knife's-edge drama that normally comes with a story about Vampires. It's a cute, great, and almost innocent story mixed in with some adult humor that really feels like a breath of fresh air, in a world of manga/anime that's been saturated with the same old, same old story-lines and tropes. Story: 10/10 I'm not very gracious when it comes to giving out 10's, because a 10 means that it's stood above and beyond in every way compared to other in that field. Now a days it's hard to give out 10's because "been there, done that" is so common that it's hard to even create something unique, you have to fight, and get nitty, and gritty, and take risks that don't always pay off. Song of the Nightwalker/Yofukashi no Uta really stood out this once, in a genre that's honestly exceeded the life span of Manga itself. We've had stories about Dracula before this medium even was invented. The art of "you must fall in love to become a vampire" and the way they make mindless slaves, or the transformation of unwilling citizens has such a fresh vibe to it, that it keeps you reading. The way they introduce "different tastes of blood" instead of that over saturated "I just want to drink the blood of a virgin" style of story was amazing, they don't differentiate gender, they actually want the blood of someone who is no longer stressed, someone who is enjoying life. This is going to be long if I keep going, so take my word, when I give something a 10, I promise you, if you can hold up to the style of story it is without coming in with a negative view, you may not agree with my rating, but you will like it. Art: 8/10 While it's not the most captivating, and seems almost juvenile and rushed, there's just something so captivating about this simplistic, childish, art style. The twiggy, long lines, the very obtuse direction each frame takes, really helps branch things out of the need for "curves, figures, and a round world." Once again it helps stand aside from the typical, by being unique, and almost "indie." Character: 9/10 Each character is built with a direction, a purpose, a set of rules and guidelines that they never break. And often times this is actually the large problem in shows and manga, where a character breaks and bends their rules at the drop of a hat, and us the readers are sitting here wondering... but wait, in chapter 5, you said you'd NEVER do that. Our main character is a young naive boy, who is so innocent you wouldn't believe this was the 21st century. The female lead is a realistic, "I may not look my age, but damn can I act it." As she portrays an old perverted, un-aging vampire, who looks to jump between the youth, and the elderly that she encompasses. The rest of the cast each hold a small, but unique take on what its like to be underaged, or troubled, and offer a nice view of a world outside of the two characters. Enjoyment: 8/10 This has truly been great so far, and as of today, I've seen where this story's peak is getting to, and I'm excited. I can't wait to see where this is going, and if this is going to be the end coming soon, I will still be satisfied as I know it'll deliver something worth sanctification over. I love the unique twists on the Vampire genre, I love the way the characters are grounded in their principals, I love the way the author has built something I can care about, real life struggles mixed in with fantasy. Give this a read, if you're into non-intensive stories, with a plot that thickens over time, and a world that offers you some real world problems, as well as a fantasy twist on a genre you'd think was overdone, but can always offer you a brand new outtake. |
Yofukashi no Uta review
This Isnt for everyone, I think it targets a fairly niche audience, but if you are part of the audience then you will love this.
Have you ever stayed up late staring into the calmness of the night. Do you ever feel an immense wanderlust when day turns dark? If yes then this is for you. Ever since I was a kid Ive never wanted to sleep at night. Ive always preffered staying up late. Night owl forever. But at some point down the line I was just absolutely immersed in the peacefulness of the night, the time when youre truly free. Theres a certain type of person who wanders the night, and if thats you then welcome to this wonderful story. At first I didnt think much of this manga, I was mainly attracted to the artstyle (same mangaka as dagashi kashi btw), but boy was I in for a journey. I related to this manga on a deeper level as I saw them explore the night like Ive always wanted. If you like the night then you should give this a try. It follows the cozy and feel good lighthearted story of 2 people having fun and exploring the night. It touches on themes such as loneliness and being bored with everyday life. Last thing, I recommend you pull up some music to listen to when reading this. just some chill relaxing stuff. |
