Tokyo Wonder Boys review

This was trying to basically be Haikyuu, but with Football (thats soccer in freedom English) While it has a similar setup and characterization, its basically just bad from beginning to end. The art makes it damn near impossible to tell whats going on (so you'll pretty much have no clue whats occuring during all the sports parts of this sports manga) the humor is awful, the characters are generic and unlikeable, and its all basically just a mess.

I think its fair to say one of the appeals of this manga was its fujoshi appeal, much the way Haikyuu benefited from some underlying homoeroticism. Again, if you enjoy that sort of thing, you're alot better off reading Haikyuu. If me constantly referencing Haikyuu hasnt tipped you off, I think the cheif failure of this manga is to do anything original, since nowhere in the first 10 chapters is there anything to hook you in or stand out among a croweded manga landscape. The real story of this manga is the fact that it got canceled in 10 chapters, which shouldnt even be possible. That means that Shonen Jump editors more or less instantaneously realized it was a flop, so it was canceled faster than you can say "look forward to the artists next work".

Pros: Some yaoi bait and the occasional good art

Cons: Everything else

Edit: The scanlators actually did a bang up job of it, it just so happens the work itself is bollocks.
