Re:Marina

If you don't like very sweet and cute slice of life or manga that takes a bit of time to understand the character's intentions/thoughts (I was a bit irritated by the MC, though I finally understood how he felt later on and fell in love with this relationship's duo.) This is not for you.

Yes, the storyline is a bit average, though I personally LOVED it because of my love for mommydom and motherly oneesans and younger boys. If you are into oneesans and like women spoiling/pampering boys, this is for you. Although there are your usual anime clichés in this story, I overlooked it and still enjoyed it.

However, this manga does have some nude scenes in it. The MC can be annoying, though he is again, a young boy who is not used to love, so take that into mind as you read. This manga is very cute and has such a cute female MC, that I aspire to be like her.

I randomly went into a profile in MAL and saw some people talk about this manga. I saw the rank and didn't expect much. Considering I don't read that much manga i was this guy who always thought manga was mostly boring.

However this ''average'' manga showed how an average manga, is better than some of the top tier romance anime series.


Story:

This is pretty much about how they spend their everyday life trying to improve the current lifestyle of Rinnosuke. At the start it's very fresh and the comedy is on spot. There are however something hidden which slowly but surely gets explored.

You might be thinking that it's gonna be boring by having 49 chapters with some random rom/com. This is actually wrong. Aside from Rinnosuke's wimpy attitude which holds the progression back it always gives you hints about what is going on. This however doesn't mean that this is gonna be a full-on mindblowing Death Note story or anything. This is about developing their relation. The point of this series is not to figure out what is going on.

This does however have alot of cliches like the childhood friend who wastes chapters with the very annoying misunderstandings. What this does extremely well is turning these cliches into something you can enjoy. It hardly ever makes you feel mad about these cliches and instead makes you laugh or relate to what he's feeling and these super awkwardly hilarious moments that happen are always turned into something fresh you can laugh at.

These cliches however can be very good as they can create alot of amazing cliffhangers which never makes you tired to continue. If you do not like cliffhangers there's also great comedy.

As said this is a normal romcom so you should expect extremely repetitive cliches like this wimpy MC and side story chapters.


Art:

I'm no expert to stuff like art but i do feel like the characters all had unique character designs and were easy to seperate. The mangaka (most of the time) when showing someone didn't forget to draw certain parts which leads to very good consistency. I have no complaints and it's probably what made me start reading this, which i am very thankful for.

Characters:

This might be very contested against. I perfectly understand why people would wanna prove me wrong. It's because of that MC who's always wimpy and runs away. However that's not all in a character. They all start off bland and quite stereotypical, example is that the guy lost his dad and is now a guy who lives alone.

However over the course of the series i understood the characters and related to their feelings. There's a purpose for everything that happens includinge the wimpy MC. It's an understandable as well as relateable reason. They're unique and likeable in a way or two. Even '' the annoying best friends cliche '' can become likeable. You can understand how they're not his enemies which is what you think at first. The characters faces their personal problems and gain a lot of depth. There's really alot of difference from them in chapter 1 and the end. There are even alot of side stories focusing on developing their relation.

Enjoyment:

As i said, i believe this beats even many of the top tier romance anime series because this manga used their time to bring in a good story with great character development. This manga was very addicting because it had alot of cliffhangers due to the cliches which were good for the most part and never made me bored. It made me run to the next chapter because i needed more. The comedy was absolutely amazing. I laughed so many times i can't even remember. There's also alot of perfectly awkward moments which made me laugh for 3 minutes straight.

Overall:

Re:Marina is probably one of my favourite RomCom of all time. It brings together cliches and make them all useful and can bring a huge smile to your face. It has some sad moments, combined with great art and characters. If you are interested in reading this manga i would recommend this to you. It's a great thing to make time pass. The only problem i can see with this is the mid-late part which slightly scales off. What i believe is that you might very well enjoy this manga.

A nice read, that plays out pretty much as expected. As far as ecchi go, its rather tame and doesnt dip into any horribly schlocky situations.

I will say, the biggest detractor for me happened to be the ending. It was really weak, and left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. While not "bad", its quick twist to a short end left me wishing it had went for something more. Something sweeter than, "It all just plays out as it should".

Its far from the worst thing that you could read, easily getting a recommendation if you enjoy romantic ecchi SOL comedies. But, i cant help but feel the story could have been something "more". Maybe not more bombastic, erotic, or heart-wrenching. But something more than just a love story with a sweet ending.

Disclaimer: I don't usually like this kind of manga all that much. I don't usually read it. Why did I read it? I was bored and there were only 20 chapters up or so.

Quick synopsis: Rinosuke's dad was kinda shitty and now he's also dead and kind of shitty. Somehow, he got hitched to a hot college student, Marina, when he hit 40, by being in college for some reason. They get married but he gets sick with little hope of recovery and Marina decides to do timetravel and meet his teenage self. Why does Marina travel to the teenager Rinosuke, ostensibly grieving over his father's death, and not a 20-something Rinosuke, you ask? Because statutory rape is awesome when it's woman on boy, that's why!

Story: It kinda sucks. At some points I thought it would become emotional, and granted, Rinosuke does go through a lot of personal change throughout the manga....but it's mostly how a teenage boy would change when an adult woman pretty much forces herself on him. He does come to accept the situation and even starts thinking how he can become a better guy for Marina...but that's mostly because she's hot and has giant boobs.

Art: It all looks fine. Except for Marina's smile. For some stupid reason they decide that the hot girl, who looks sorta nice most of the time, instead gets a single thin line for a mouth when she's smiling. During the "cute" shots, this means she looks like some sort of :D smiley. The rest is average. Oh, there's actual nudity (boobs only) because this is Seinen. For those of you who don't know: Seinen is Shonen but with actual boobs.....well, almost.

Characters: There's two. And a whole lot of cardboard. I chewed on cardboard once. It was nice.
Seriously though, Rinosuke grows a bit but he's just an annoying ass for the rest. He doesn't know how to get away from Marina when her sexual lust for him freaks the shit outta him (which it should), and he doesn't know how to get close to her once he realizes he's got a pretty sweet deal. The side characters barely appear and Marina is just sorta there. All the time. Her personality is boobs.

Overall: I didn't like it very much. Maybe you noticed that. Maybe it's that I'm not someone for pure ecchi series. Maybe I don't like slice of life that much. Maybe cause I don't want smileys as love interests? Honestly though, I'm not that harsh on stuff, but the ending makes it that much more annoying.

I was hoping so much it isn't like any other japanese """comedy""", but it, unfortunately, is.
It feels like you're reading the same book over and over again. This genre has nothing appealing or new, it is just another generic story. Speaking of which, it's nonexistent. Time machine? Seriously? Not only it has all the cliches of genre, author didn't bother him/herself to implement a good starting point.
All characters are very unnecessary and annoying, made purely for the drama.
Don't read this, it's just another waste of budget.

I have nothing more to say but the review requires more words. How stupid.

First of all, the story was simply amazing! Despite the genre; ecchi and adult with nudity, its an amazing slice of life manga. The story flows so well, its really detailed so you won't miss a thing or two about what's happening in each chapter.The art is well designed, the character look amazing; the art isn't just decent but the character's expressions, looks and feelings are top class. I personally loved how the illustrator created the design of the main character, it's a decent 16 year old student. Furthermore, the woman Marina has to be in the hot list, I think she's G Cup. Marina must be a nadeshiko type I guess, an ideal wife! Enjoyment was fantastic too, every chapter its hilarious and full of romance. Overall, its simply those once in 2 years manga; if the manga ever got animated, I would definetly watch it. I would definetly recommend it this manga! Only regret I have is there is no after story! That's what I dislike about it.

This is a manga that was interesting for what was there between the lines so to speak rather than the actual things focused on in the plot. In terms of premise, it sets up an interesting premise in that a wife comes back to be with her husband in the past, which is a pretty unique relationship and the core of the manga. However, this is also all sorts of strange. Is the person in the past really the same as the one in the future, especially considering the major age gap between them? I would say that even though they kind of are, they really aren't. Hence, her being in love with him just based on the future is a very awkward relationship, which casts a shadow over the whole plot. This is resolved over time in a way, in that Rinosuke grows as a character, becoming someone who is capable of being loved and loving in return, and though he still has a personality that is childish in contrast to the future him, Marina still falls in love with him for real. However, this brings up all sorts of other issues. Primarily in that, since she's falling in love with someone who is different for the reason that they are different, that's kind of sort of cheating. Now while all of this isn't explored in such depth as I feel it could have been, it is acknowledged quite clearly, which ends up setting their whole relationship and plot on a very awkward trajectory, and one that doesn't seem to really have any sort of solid and satisfactory conclusion. In the end, the author decides that creating a solution that is satisfying and in line with the tone of the manga was the most important thing to do, and hence the plot bends over backwards in a way that doesn't really make much sense, but manages to reach a conclusion that is satisfying thematically. Hence, while I certainly can't say the plot is perfectly executed, I still think that overall it was quite solid in that it explored a unique relationship quite well, while the ending too was far from perfect it was still right in what the spirit of the ending should be even if there wasn't really any way to do a good implementation of such. There are side stories with various other characters, but they mostly fall flat outside of how they connect to the main relationship. I thought most all of them were jerks too, with the exception of the girl that confessed to him considering she was apologetic after being led around. The art I thought was really good, primarily in that Marina being incredibly cheerful came across very well. 

tl;dr: A manga that sets up a very interesting relationship but has some trouble in how to bring it to its conclusion.
