Resumo
Bi-Kwang is a handsome young warrior who becomes a drooling mess whenever he sees a pretty girl. Out on the road he meets an extraordinary swordfighter with no name who is searching for a legendary master warrior. Bi-Kwang promises to aid the swordfighter if he lets Bi-Kwang meet his beautiful sister. Of course, it turns out the swordfighter is the sister, Hwa-Rin Dahm, and she must switch identities to keep the plot moving along. Bi-Kwang is immediately smitten, and thus we have a triangle involving only two people.

The story takes place in a setting in each side is trying to unify the Murim as a whole, and while this is taking place, Bi-Kwang who is extremely good at learning martial arts but doesn't want to learn it, gets into a deal where he takes the girl to see her grand father since he was the last person to see him before he disappeared and on the way he encounters many enemies and some friends (who show up from time to time) and he matures since he realizes why martial arts is so important and that he has been using it wrongly.

Ruler of the Land is quite old, and when you look at the art reminds me of Hajime no Ippo for it's old-like art, that you can really tell the difference from it and more recent mangas or manhwas for this matter. It can also resemble the story of Dragon Ball, because the main character doesn't have a real goal in life like many other mangas focus on, so the story is almost like a monogatari style if you look at it, but the hilarious comedy kind of rules that off.

As I said just now the story is basically the main characters Han Bi Kwang story from some point in time and his development in the world of Murim (Martial Arts World) which he seems to have no interest on, he is basically your next door pervert with his only goal to get a pretty woman for himself and settle down, but fates and bloodlines in the world of Martial Arts won't let this genius and stupid protagonist go in peace. In general the story will follow Han Bi Kwang as story unrolls, in a very hilarious way, sometimes you will simply read a chapter again and again and you will laugh your heart out each and every time. Story : 8/10 - Like Hajime no Ippo and Dragon Ball the authors aren't afraid of showing a lot more ecchi than others, not in a sexual way simply, but making the comedy simply brilliant that will make you feel like nothing else can make you feel bad the day you read Ruler of the Land.

The art is obviously old, since it has been almost 20 years Ruler of the Land started publishing, but it is still really good, only yesterday I started reading a new series which the art might as well had been done by an 6-year old, so don't let this series go because it's art is oldschool-like, I bet you haven't seen art quite like it before. Fight scenes are outstanding, scenery destruction and ground breaking are quite normal here and you will see it a lot, doublepages for the fight scenes are used more than a lot, which makes special attacks and huge swords and blades really amazing. Ecchi scenes are really well made, as said before they make the story hillarious. Art : 7/10 - It's old so i won't give more, but had it been made more recently undoubtlly it would be 10/10.

The characters are very well made and no matter how serious a character is in this series you WILL at some point in time, in this series, laugh your guts out with each and everyone of them specially with our main character Bi-Kwang and the way he is either perverted or sarcastic with the other characters. Character : 8/10 - there isn't much work in the characters as in their mind and way of thinking, the world is split basically in black force and white force, and people in each force hate the counterpart, our only variable would be the main character who just couldn't care less.

The enjoyment is outstanding, you will laugh like you most likely only did when you watched Dragon Ball (uncensored cuz TV screwed with an amazing series) and reading Hajime no Ippo. So far we have around 260 chapters, and in my opinion even if we reach 1000 like Hajime no Ippo, Ruler of the Land is worth reading a hundred times over and the comedy won't get old enough or tiring. Enjoyment : 10/10

In Overall : 8/10 - This series is really old-school in my opinion, I can spare fingers in my hand if i try to count how many "new" series made me laugh like this one and other rather old ones did. The story has an inner plot deep inside, but it isn't the main focus here. Mangas are far more vast in numbers than Manhwas, and Manhwas usually surprise us with it's different "logic" that mangas have, this one specifically will surprise you in ways that you have to re-start a chapter you were reading because you started to laugh for 10 minutes halfway through the chapter. More than worth reading over and over and supporting.

*CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS*

Plot- The story revolves around Bi Kwang who is the 6th disciple of the most powerful master of the dark clan,Despite this Han Bi Kwang has no desire to learn martial arts and only wants women and live a peaceful life, but little did he know he is actually a genius. He is a true martial artist that is born only once per thousand years, out on the road he meets an extraordinary swordfighter Hwa-Rin (main female lead of the series) who is searching for a legendary master warrior.

- Reading this gem from last 2 days non-stop. Finally, I am at chapter 325, this manhwa has everything comedy, superpower action, great story and romance too. Basically, its a combination of DBZ and the breaker set in medieval Chinese times. Bi Kwang is just damn powerful he can learn any martial art moves just by seeing it once, though he doesn't knows about it or his extraordinary ki and he is a quite a pervert too, later he falls truly for Hwa-rin though that remains one-sided until the latest chapters. Now, for Hwa-rin she carries with her "The Sword of the Flower's Soul", one of the eight treasures of the land (just like Bi Kwang's fire dragon saber), which she inherited from her grand father who also happens to be the man known as "The Sword Emperor".

Genres- Action, Adventure, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Martial Arts, Romance, Shounen

Story- 8.5/10 ( sometimes the misunderstandings in the plot becomes annoying)

Art-9/10 (Since its a really old manhwa of 90s, don't except too much but the artwork of the current chapters are improved a lot)

Characters- 9/10 ( Hwa-rin is one of the strongest female lead I have seen in a series that has more than 300 chapters, as for Bi Kwang he is your typical shounen character who gets stronger by each fight)

Enjoyment- 9.5/10 ( As the story progress, I got hooked up with manhwa and read it in one go :") )

~ Not sure if this manhwa is everyone's cup of tea. If you are looking funny yet serious story with DBZ like action. This manhwa is for you!

Surprised their are no reviews yet for this manhwa considering it's being updated with 148 chapters already released, but no matter cause here is MY review.

Story - Ruler of the Land is about Han Bi Kwang the 6th disciple of the most powerful master of the dark clan. Despite this Han Bi Kwang has no desire to learn martial arts and only wants to find a wife and live a peaceful life. The story is quite good despite there not being any overall plot like becoming the strongest or taking over the world or anything like that. Mostly you just follow Han Bi Kwang and his perverted antics. Despite this the story doesn't lack since it mostly concentrates on the journey of Han Bi Kwang and his partner.

Art - The art is good but not great. While in general the art is good, there are times when they are fighting that there is too much going on making it difficult to tell what is happening. But other than that, the character designs are good, and you can always tell who is who which many manga have a hard time doing.

Character - This is where Ruler of the Land shines. The characters all have their unique personalities so their in never a dull moment between them. From the extremely perverted Han Bi Kwang to Hwa-Rin uneasy feelings she has toward Bi Kwang the characters make this manhwa what it is. Also something I like there are not a lot of extra characters popping up for a few chapters then leaving, all the characters have their place and help move the story along.

Enjoyment - The enjoyment factor for this is high, took me about two days to marathon through this and considering it had my attention for just about all of it I would say it is an enjoyable read. The thing that makes this so good is that it mixes comedy with seriousness quite well, and even though most of the time jokes are being thrown around that doesn't detract from the overall story. While this wasn't the funniest manga I've ever read it does usually leave you with a smile.

Overall this is a really good manhwa that is clearly underrated. If you are looking for something enjoyable that will make keep wanting to read this is for you. This manwha may not be as popular as some others but this is definitely a must read for anyone looking for a great fantasy, adventure, martial arts story.

Let me preface this with the fact that I was very optomistic going into this read. I read and waited, but grew so frustrated with the work that I had to put it down never to be read again.

Pros:
The MC is refreshing and amusing. He's very real as a character.

The art style is reflective of when it was made, but seriously improves as the chapters progress.

The characters are pretty believable to some extent.

The original premise of the plot is actually pretty good.

Cons:

The writing for developing the plot is horrible. The writing feels like looking at thinly sliced swiss cheese, so many holes and almost see through.

The cliches are everywhere, like cooties from girls around a little boy.

The characters are almost perfectly static. They may seem to change but a few chapters later they are back to their old antics with a few tricks thrown in. Not only that but the MC constantly makes the same bad decisions over and over again.

One of the bigger issues is the author/artist constantly breaking the 4th wall. You'll be in the middle of a dialogue and all of a sudden a character is citing a chapter something happened. It totally breaks the immersion in the story and is so overused that the initial amusement turns to resentment.

The arcs of the story are all the same. By the fifth bad guy you feel like deja vu and not in a good way. Not only that but there is never down time for character inter relationship development.

There is also tons of silly fan service that detracts from the story.

The author also likes to use the same jokes over and over. The horse has combusted by how many times it has been beaten. If it wasn't dead before it certainly is now.

One of the most frustrating things was the buff and nerf cycle and how inconsistent it was. On day the MC could take on a master combatant, the next he couldn't even beat a run of the mill farmer. It's kind of funny the MC is considered a genius, because all the side characters pass him in power all the time. The MC would also master something and then completely forget about completely or use it when it was impractical or silly.

Overall:
I really tried to love this publication I really did. So many people told me it was great and I believed. I read chapter after chapter waiting to see the promised land, only to find that the promise was baren. Now I just feel lied to and burned out. I probably won't even think of this publication again unless it's in frustration.

Probably one of the most underrated manhwa I've yet found, but there is a very good reason it's been running for over 430 chapters in Korea! It's AWESOME!

This manhwa has great battles, martial arts, comedy, sexual innuendo, angst, romance, blood and gore, a lead character who grows and matures over the life of the story and LOTS of chapters that are finally getting translated into English!

Han Bi Kwang is an engaging, brash but very lovable scoundrel who'd rather run from a fight than engage in it. His head is easily turned by a pretty face but because he has no finesse when it comes to women, he's never been with one himself. When the story opens, he has become the disciple of a famous master of martial arts because that master sees great potential in him, but Bi Kwang refuses to spend any time learning how to fight - he picks things up almost perfectly by watching so he doesn't see the need.

Through the story, he meets a beautiful and skilled swordswoman Dahm Hwa-Rin, who is the pupil of his master's arch enemy. She dresses as a man to protect her identity and even fools Bi Kwang for a while (not hard to do). The banter between the two leads is a large part of the story's charm - as Bi Kwang's wandering eyes (and hands) make Hwa-Rin want to kill him as often as she worries he's going to get himself killed! The two leads seem to be the last ones who realize how deeply they are falling in love with one another.

The main overarching narrative has Bi Kwang travelling deep into the enemy's territory looking for Hwa-Rin's grandfather, the great swordsman who, along with Bi Kwang's master, is one of the finest swordsmen of the age. Several smaller archs along the way have him making friends and running from enemies in the mythological world somewhat reminiscent of medieval Korea. The cast of this manhwa is huge and you might find yourself forgetting who one of the characters is, but there is excellent continuity of story and a nice, believable progression in the main characters' maturity and romance. The battles are well drawn and exciting too and I'm not one who usually enjoys endless battles in a story.

I was surprised by how much I liked this manhwa - it's unlike anything else on my favorites list - but I found myself reading through this one to the exclusion of just about everything else. It's addictive if you give it half a shot. The art looks a little dated at first, but understand this manhwa began in 1995 and is apparently still being produced. The first three volumes were translated and published here in the US, but I've not been able to find more than that. There are 51 volumes available in some other countries and, at long last, a generous and wonderful fan is translating the manhwa into English. I don't know if anyone will ever put the rest of this story into English officially, but if you are looking for something good that even the person who's read 'EVERYTHING' hasn't seen before, this may be it.
