"You’re lying."

Sixteen-year-old Kanoko Urabe knows that someone is lying if she can hear the strange, echoing sound of clanging metal in their voice. As a young and overly honest child, she would point out the lies of other villagers, and was ostracized as a result. She is eventually forced to leave her hometown and tries to find a place for herself in the city of Tsukumoya in 1920s Japan.

In a chance encounter, Kanoko meets Souma Iwai, a gifted but penniless detective. After she is forced to demonstrate her ability, he expresses appreciation for what she can do and agrees to take her in, asking the girl to be his assistant. The Iwai investigation firm soon makes a name for itself helping clients by solving cases with Souma's sharp wits and Kanoko's power. In the process, Kanoko's life is enriched by the various people she encounters in her investigations.

I'm a sucker for historical-based manga, so I was really thrilled to chance upon this light-hearted detective shoujo that promises romance among its genres, but has not shown explicit rabu-rabu 11 chapters in.

STORY
So far, the chapters following the lead heroine's obligatory intro and meetcute with the lead guy have all been mini-arcs of cases. The mysteries vary from something as banal as mixed restaurant orders to something more Meitantei Conan-like (decade-old murder cases).

I'm the type of reader who easily goes "oooh!" at simple cases of observation and deduction skills, so I really can't recommend this to mystery lovers. However, I can vouch for its light humor and over-all pleasant feeling it brings to the readers.

Romance (which is one of my criteria for selecting manga reads) is still not evident, but the story's just starting. There are subtle hints here and there about the special bonds the leads share, like the detective's protectiveness over his assistant.

CHARACTERS
The lead male is refreshingly cheerful and uber nice to the lead heroine. No back stories about him encountered yet, but I sure would like to know how he ended up as a detective in a historical period!

The lead female is sincere and kind-hearted. She also reminds me a bit of my favorite shoujo heroine, Naedoko of Kono Dano Ai Dano, appearance-wise. But I digress. Kanoko is pretty likable.

There are other characters here, and they all appear every now and then in the chapters. While they're mostly in the background, their scenes have been enough so far to give the readers an idea about their personalities.

ART

Very nicely drawn. I love the characters' wardrobe most especially (but then again, please refer to my earlier disclosure that I love outfits from this period)

OVERALL

I look forward to reading the successive chapters (and hopefully, read the romance its genre tags promised!)

This manga has a lot to offer for mystery lovers, It is a detective story set in a different time period(the past), even though it has someone with a special power to detect lies, the detective gathers the evidences for cases primarily through his ability. There are a variety of interesting cases, so this manga is gonna be a treat for mystery lovers.

the story begins with the childhood days of our female protagonist Urabe Kanoko a girl who can detect lies, she doesn't realise she is the only one who has this ability, when others learn about her ability they ostracise her, even her family is afraid of her. Since she no longer wanted to trouble others she left her home at 16, on her travel she met a detective, Iwai Souma and helped him solve a case, after which Souma got to know about her circumstance and welcomed her to stay and assist him in his cases, Kanako was delighted that her abilities did not bother Souma and was happy to be of use to him. Thereafter the story goes with solving lots of cases

Just because there is a human lie detector it doesn't mean the cases are gonna be solved easily, the detective still has to collect evidence acceptable by police or the client to justify his theory behind the case, which he collects by solely depending on his skills. So even if there is the supernatural element, the mystery element is the dominant one in this manga.

even if its a periodical detective story the enjoyment from a manga could only be achieved through its characters and this manga has a bunch of interesting characters whose reactions and interactions has worked out well to keep things lively. One interesting aspect of this manga is that they have used the characters from one case in other cases and made things much more livelier than regular mystery mangas. Other than the mystery there are some character development in kanako through out the flow of the manga which is influenced by the detective in every cases while she uses her power. There is also the subtle growth of romance time to time.

For me overall, this manga had a great story - the way he solved the cases were interesting, and it also showed how she matured and how their previous ideologies where changed by the flow of the manga. great art - it was well illustrated, the characters were also well drawn, great characters - characters with interesting priorities and simplistic reactions and all these made me thoroughly enjoy it and give it a score of 9.
