Domestic na Kanojo review
If you read the Manga just stop at chapter 264, as much as a train wreck this whole Manga is, it was actually a pretty good and wholesome Manga up til the final arc where the author just throws away any character development for some reason. I won't rant about it here but if you read it you would understand what I am saying. Back to the positives, the artwork is pretty good, came in looking for a quick fap and stayed because of the juicy dramas, in terms of story and character development, it was actually pretty good, they all actually grew and came to a conclusion in their arcs if you discount the final few chapters, this manga actually made it interesting in terms of character progression and how each of them grew into their own person, I can relate to Hina in terms of unrequited love and living for someone else's dream, sometimes it's not meant to be but we choose to do it because we truly love the other person, it's just life, Rui finally growing up and becoming a headstrong woman and stop relying on Natsuo and breaking up with him because their relationship was getting toxic, I relate to that too because my previous relationship was also the same where I was going nowhere in life because I rely emotionally too much on my partner and was becoming toxic when she had her own life to live, and finally Natsuo, recovering from his mental block of writing and becoming decisive and choosing who he wants to be with instead of staying wishy washy. All these are good character development and progression and it actually helped with the enjoyment of the story.

Domestic na Kanojo review
This manga will always hold a special place in my heart. It is surely no less than a masterpiece. I couldn’t stop reading once I started. It really set itself apart from the rest. It shined in all its aspect as a manga. Art, Creativity, Entertainment, and Story is masterfully done. One of the best if not the best romance manga out there. It really pulls on the heartstrings and will surely make you fall in love with the characters. I can’t recommend this manga enough.

It really emphasizes on how strong and unconditional love is. A deep story of forbidden yet not forbidden love. A love triangle that can never truly resolve. The remnants of love that will never fade away. The unbearable pain of love that breaks the human heart. And of course the joy and intimacy of love.

I can’t count how many times I’ve shed tears to this manga whether it be tears of joy or sorrow. All I can say is, I’ve shed more tears to this manga than anything I’ve ever read, seen, or experienced. The emotional implications runs really deep. For sure, this manga is definitely for a mature audience. I can’t really see an immature person or someone with no interests in romance enjoy this manga. However for those who are, it will be one of the greatest you’ll ever read.

No matter how unconditional, love is love and there should be no questions about it. That phrase, will be implied multiple times in the manga, and I’m sure that is the message this manga is trying to tell us through its story.

Domestic na Kanojo review
The Last of us 2 levels of controversy for manga.

To say this manga was shrouded in controversy since its inception would probably be only the tip of the iceberg.

Domestic Girlfriend is a series about a character who loses his virginity to some random chick named Rui. Something he then sort of regrets because he already had feelings for someone else. This girl in question being his teacher, Hina. Natsuo (MC) gains feeling for her as she figures out that he wants to write a story. So Hina is constantly pestering him for another chapter of his book while Natsuo gets flustered and slowly but surely gained feelings for her. Now the story actually starts when his dad actually marries another women giving Natsuo 2 step-sisters. Lo and behold the younger sister is the girl he slept with and the older sister is his teacher that he's in love with. Now he has to deal with both of these under one roof.

Now the series is awesome. The love triangle between Natsuo and Rui and hina is the best part about the series. It is exciting and invigorating. I loved seeing all the emotion between these characters fall into place. These 3 characters are easily what carries Specifically Natsuo. His growth throughout the series was really fun to watch. This alongside Rui and Even Hina. The side characters however did fall short somewhat. Some of them were actually really good namely Miyabi and the librarian chick. But some of them fell short as well. Al for example was pretty unlikable for most of the series.

Did i say the love triangle was the best part about the series? I was actually lying because the art was the best part of the series. The art is just magnified by the story. The reason for that is because the romance of the series works really well. The author does a great job of making the characters show that they love each other rather than tell them. This is the artistic detail in the face and the eyes. Especially the eyes. It really shows that the character is in love. And i think the author did a good job in making the character look like there in love.

Now back to the um.. series. The series kinda sucks dick.

**MASSIVE SPOILERS**

Now i did love the story of the series. For 27 volumes this series was fantastic, Until it did sort of fell apart near the end. Now i don't think the series sucks as much as people have stated, but it does sort of break apart and the reason for that is because of How Hina achieved her victory.

The series for the first 75 chapters is about Hina and Natsuo. Rui slowly also understands her feelings. But mainly about Natsuo falling for Hina harder and harder and Hina falling for Natsuo. Over the course of the series though Hina being his teacher was a relationship that probably wouldn't last. So they end up breaking up after someone finds out about there relationship. Natuso than heart broken tries moving on,on which Rui decides to be honest with herself that she is in love with Natsuo. Natsuo as well overtime garners feelings for Rui moving on from Hina.

Natsuo absolutely adored Rui and wanted a future with her. He wanted to be her husband and have a future with Rui. This is shown for over 150 chapters. The series is almost all about Rui and Natsuo. They break apart only to get back together. The claw through so much together and apart to be together only for it to be some bullshit for them to not end up together.

Now I've heard some people say that Hina was always the true victor and that Rui was nothing more than a rebound and if that sounds like complete Horseshit thats because it is. These thoughts however are pretty much par for the course for any romance harem series. You will always have people saying that x heroine was back up anyway. If Rui had won many people would pretty much be saying the opposite about Rui instead and calling Hina the invertible loser instead.

Hina gets into an accident trying to protect Rui. Which results in Hina becoming a vegetable. Rui plagued by guilt decided to give up on Natsuo and several years later after she wakes up Natsuo ends up happily married to Hina.

This is very much a weak ending by the author.. The manga had setup for so long for Rui to win only to end up changing her mind at the last second. Im not saying it doesn't make sense but its still pretty bullshit. The reason for that is because Hina didn't really win. Rui surrendered. After so long of Rui and Natsuo we are just supposed to accept that they are not gonna be together that after so long of Natsuo finally moving on from Hina rejecting confessions because he is still in love with Rui he ends up with Hina anyway.

If Hina had won over Natsuo this would've been much more enjoyable to watch. But it feels more like she got lucky rather than something she deserved. If Kei Sasuga really wanted Hina to win as she stated she did. Then she should've made Natsuo choose Hina rather than her being the only choice avalible. This is the biggest issue of Domestic Girlfriend. Hina's victory is hollow rather than deserved.

I did however say that i didn't hate the ending as much as eveyrone else and that is because the first 75 chapters are still fresh in my mind. Every single promise that Natsuo made to Hina is still rinigng in my head. But every single hollow promise to Rui is also ringing in my head.

**END OF MASSIVE SPOILERS**

I do understand that this is a very negative and critical review of the series. But I still enjoyed this manga. Its carried by interesting characters, Certain episodic events and the artistic talent of the author. I do wished that the ending would be better. I do wish the heroine that i was rooting for won. and I do wish that the author wrote a more fleshed out ending as it does feel like there are 4-6 volumes between volume 27 and volume 28. Its not that i don't understand what the author tried to do. Its the fact that she did it poorly.

I honestly don't know how to rate this series. I did love it and I did hate it. But Despite that i do think this is a good enough to be worth reading.. And part of the reason is because its over now. ITs finished Binging this series for the last 3 days has been quite the experince.

TLDR: Half the people who told me the ending sucks haven't even actually read the manga. I know I asked. I myself did not enjoy the ending all that much but i would still recommend this series. I do think you guys should check out this series. ?/10

Domestic na Kanojo review
Finally, the 6 year battle has ended.

Oh, Kei Sasuga what have you done...

This is my first manga review so please don't judge me.

Domestic na Kanojo is a good example how to ruin a decent manga with it's ending. Of course, the ending is not the only one that i found frustrating in this manga. It's just how every character seems to have the IQ of a cow.

Story- 4/10

The story is quite simple Natsuo Fujii a highschool student is in love with his teacher Hina Tachibana. But knows she is out of his reach so he decides to go to a mixer. There he meets girl named Rui who suddenly want's to lose her virginity with Natsuo who is also a virgin. So then they decide to go to some random hotel and fuck. In the next day, they decide not to meet again (wanting to keep it a one night stand). But soon after Natsuo get's home his father announces that he will get remarried soon. Natsuo doesn't seem to mind but soon after when his father's new fiance come's to meet Natsuo, she bring her two daughters from her former marriage. And those sisters are surprise surprise Hina and Rui. Natsuo's crush and teacher, as well as his one-night stand in the same package. And that's when the whole shit starts.

I gotta say after reading about 10 first chapter's , i actually enjoyed them. But the more i read the more confused i got from the decisions made by characters. And when i'm confused and frustrated all the time i can't give it a good number. And because the story telling is just so fucking bad. This whole step-sister love triangle thing itself was just too much for me to chew, so this shall be the last step-sis love triangle themed manga i ever read.

Art- 8/10

I gotta admit i really liked the artstyle, it made the girls look really pretty. Guys were also done pretty well. I don't have much else to say since i myself don't know anything about drawing.

Characters- 2/10

As i said, the characters were really awkward and dumb. And i hated how they ruined Rui's character, she changed so much in the ending. I mean it's good to be independent but her decisions for someone else's happiness were really questionable. And also how pathetic Natsuo was when not being able to decide which girl to choose, like come on man...

Enjoyment- 4/10

I really enjoyed the manga to a certain point but then i just started to get enough of this series. But if there's one thing that i really enjoyed as a man of culture all the time was where they had sex they are always gud. But if you really enjoy these step-sis romance manga's then you should take a peak at this one (just kidding please don't read this it's just a waste of time really...)

But i'm glad it's over, now i can sleep in peace and never ever think about this series again.

Domestic na Kanojo review

Domestic na kanojo is a 226chapter (currently) walking time bomb, it’s a show where anything that can go wrong will not only go wrong but it will cause critical dmg to everything in a 40km radius. The show is packed with plot twist and intense drama plus a few other moments that give this show its beauty or its doom. To be honest domestic na kanojo is a manga that will either be a hit or a miss, there is no grey ground in this case. Meaning that you will either love everything about it or want to burn the entire manga collection and then remove that ashes from the face of the earth. To start it off I would like to first get into the characters of the show, main cast to be more specific.
CHARACTERS
Natsuo Fujii is probably one of if not the dumbest characters you will ever meet. His lack of determination has brought the show to its knees but also is the main reason why the show has so much drama in it. He constantly keep switching between his love interest which not only shakes up the manga to the core and makes it impossible to make in solid ground on which the manga can stand, it keeps fuelling the never ending war of who the best girl is. He is an aspiring writer that tries to make it big in the world by writing novels. Using his own experiences as the Muse for writing his work and sometimes learns from the mistakes he made ( but mostly he just forgets). He is portrayed as a charismatic and dependable person that is also hardworking when its needed. But mostly he just does what is needed to avoid any type of uncomfortable situations with other people since he cant actually make a decision without thinking it over for 3 years. But as incomplete as he is, he does help others as much as he can no matter on how it may reflect on him

Rui Tachibana one of the sweethearts of the show. Rui is a cold Kuudere that doesn’t show of a lot of emotions in the begging and like every other kuudere she warms up to Nat as the show progresses.
SPOILERS
since rui gets most of her development later in show in the begging she seems very normal and not that emotional considering the fact that she slept with Natsuo. Later in the manga she decides to become a chef and works as much as possible towards that dream. Rui is probably the most normal character in the entire domestic na kanojo show, which is no surprised since she does have the same char design as one of the characters from Sasuga Kei's (the author) previous manga. Her personality is pretty stable and she acts like any normal person would from situation to situation. She knows what she wants and during her time while being with Natsuo we get to see this sweet and caring side of her, with a lot of emphasis on her feelings like lust, fear, despair, jealousy, happiness and so on. Overall a pretty stable char that has a slow and healthy pacing (except for that first part when she slept with Natsuo) when it comes to building up her relationship with natsuo.
Hina Tachiban is probably my least favourite character of the show. Ofc that’s just my personal opinion but I find most problems that come from this show are cause of Hina and Natsuo themself. Hina is Rui’s older sister but only in age. And what I mean by that is that Hina is an immature 27 year-old alcoholic that has the brain of a 14 year old girl reading shouju mangas. She doesn’t put much thought in her actions and they mostly end up badly for either her or more people. She is a teacher at Natsuo's and Rui'a school teaching English and for a teacher a person that Is supposed to guide other people to success Hina cant even grasp her own life. She lives with her mother and sister even though she has a stable job and is actually 27. She is dating a married man and during this time she will cheat on him with natsuo. Her love for natsuo is unexplained when it comes to why they fell in love and is described as unconditional, which makes no sense since Hina was dating Shuu for a long time, and natsuo was one of her students who was probably 16 at the time they met. Now these two will have their relationship and it will be discovered and will lead to hina having to move out of the house. Where she will teach in another city while getting drunk at night and going to work the next morning, sadly this alcoholism isn’t caused by the breakup, hina was always a drunk and has always had a problem with alcohol she just seems to be ignore It. Later in the manga she will be allowed to come back after a few years when she Is supposed to be matured and evolved pass this childish behaviour. But she doesn’t and just pretends she has her feelings under control.

The side characters of the show are well built and designed with most of them having their own goals and aspirations and they get treated properly in their own arcs of the manga. Plus they are shown after the main characters finish school and are brought back in a later stage with their own accomplishments and stories do them and with different relationships that have evolved/devolved during the time they were away.

Manga
Story
This is where the manga kind of wields a double edged sword where It makes it good but also ruins it. The entire manga is a click bait. The drama is constant and every chapter will make you wait for the next chapter like a kid waiting to open a present on Christmas or it will give you more of a reason to hate the show. While I enjoy the show and plot twist are constant and sometimes cliché and plain stupid at the moments will either make you like this manga or break your interest to read it. Like every story Domestic na kanojo has good moments and bad moments the good thing about this story is that you honestly don’t know is smth a good moment or a bad one. Cause the plot twist are often and they are on a large scale after a while you lose this sense of it actually being impactful. But that is a double edged sword as well.
What I honestly can commend Sasuga Kei for is the constant progression of the story, even with all this drama and problems it shows a realistic aspect of humans where they put all of that besides when going into public and tend to deal with the problems ourselves without wanting to confide into anyone. The plots are sometimes ground breaking and genius but some are also so dumb that it makes no logical sense that the author did it on purpose for example the arc where the manga literally turned into Breaking Bad.
The actual plot of the manga which is incest is not handled properly or more to say not discussed to the amount it should. Characters mostly shrug off the whole problem which in a romantic way makes sense the whole “we are in love thing”, but then again it’s not smth so trivial that can be handled like that. Incest (and I know that they are blood related and all) is not some out of the box topic or smth that is new or innovative, but most shows avoid this topic cause it’s really hard to work with and will cause backlash no matter how well it’s done or how well its treated.
The manga later leaves the whole love triangle topic where each of the characters have their own stories and own problems which is also a nice touch.
ART
The art of domestic na kanojo is simply amazing the char are well drawn and there is a nicely decorated background most of the time. The male char are mostly buffed which I find weird but the girls are done amazing their facial expressions are never stale or stiff and their body figure Is done properly
OVERALL OPINON AND RATING
As I said domestic na kanojo is a hit or miss so you will either love it or hate it but I will try to keep my ratings as objective as possible since I enjoyed the manga. Would I recommend this show 100% yes. But read the first 30 chapters, and if you like it you will love the rest of the show if you dont like it then just drop it cause it wont get better for you .

Domestic na Kanojo review
Domestic Girlfriend is such a wonderful read. as I write this I am still reading the manga (Chapter 221) and even though I have a slow reading pace I am so hooked since the story and characters are so gripping and I don’t wanna leave without my happy ending, and it's really rare that I even want to read manga so that alone proves how in love with this story I am.

If you are a fan of romance I’d say this book hits its mark and I don’t feel that the comedy in the book ever really makes me lose myself to laughter but it helps to build the world, I’m constantly coming up with new theories of what will happen next and most of the time I’m wrong, though I don’t hate it. There are so many reasons I don’t want to put this book down though I’m pretty sure I won’t get the ending I’ve wished for, sometimes this book has me thinking the main character should be stronger or less pathetic but I don’t dislike his personality and I’m not 100% against the realistic plausibility of his actions.

Yes girls just seem to love him, it’s one of those character types, but he is more than just Main character bot 5000, he has a life which moves around him, a family that cares deeply for him, and friends that understand his situations. All the girls are written pretty well and have good reasons to have people support them, though honestly, I’m not sure whether I like a certain girl the most due to page time or character traits.

After Thoughts: (Will update the once the manga is finished.)

Domestic na Kanojo review
There are not many manga that have love stories like Domestic na Kanojo. It takes the theme of a melancholic teen love story about unrequited and forbidden love, and quickly turns into something full of conflict in it.

Most of the Domestic na Kanojo character consist of hypocrites who are upset with the fate of their love. Two sisters with opposing personalities live in the same house as the male protagonist. Sometimes they act unreasonably, and can change their attitude to willingness, surrender to love. After all, love is a difficult thing, and teenagers are at the most confusing stage of their lives. But it becomes a question if what they feel is love in the first place when they can easily find someone else instead, sleeping with anyone who shows them even a little love. It's very possible that Rui and Natsuo might just fall in love with things like strangers. Because they were the first people to give them that love.

While a girl like Hina is undoubtedly possessed by a very twisted worldview, it becomes a wonder how she can even fulfill her duties as a teacher. She thinks that being an adult will always act wisely but in fact isn't. She finally reached the point where she ignored his principles so far and decided to become a person who thinks rationally.

Each of the three main gets their turn to tell on many occasions, which are not good for explaining their motivations and feelings and for making them feel like the right protagonists rather than mere accessories for slaughter, even if some receive less significant characterizations. From the other. Just showing two characters having sex or making out one another is not nearly the same as when accompanied by narration. When arranged with the manga's some dialogues almost feel enthralling, and kisses can bring strength, even if it is between two people who really have no business kissing each other in the first place. It's quite unfortunate to have manga that isn't brave enough to draw sex in an honest way.

I will admit that I am very interested in Domestic na Kanojo. This is not a bad manga, but because it aims to convey how true love is, which only contains pain and tears. Domestic na Kanojo is about manga is as fun to possible, and it never really aims to fill that gap with a lot of substance or meaning. The starting and ending points are the same.

Love is blind, as the saying goes, but in this case they also have to be blind in the literal sense.

Maybe they want to feel bad. Maybe they just want to feel emotions, any emotions. But I will make sure you feel something.

Domestic na Kanojo review
This is the first time I've actually hated every single character in a manga, before (except for Momo). Literally every single person (except Momo) is the absolute worst kind of scumbag human being that could be put to paper. Normally, that's not a problem (I actually enjoy reading Redo of Healer and everyone in that manga is completely horrible). However, this mangaka seems to write these horrible people as if they were angels and the fucked up things they do are either excused, or not a problem at all. Apparently, if you do horrible things, but you were doing them because you "love" someone, it's all okay, because you were "in love". Think that sounds ridiculous? Maybe I'm exaggerating? Let me give you multiple examples:

Hina: The main character's (Natsuo) main love interest in the beginning of the manga and who he'll inevitably get with at the end of the series, as well. She's written as cute and bubbly and fans of the series literally call her an angel and/or a saint. She is the literal definition of a homewrecker and loved/bragged about her 2 year sexual relationship with a married man. She also constantly mentally tortures Natsuo and has the maturity and intelligence of an infant. Also just a whore, in general.

Shuu: Written as a kind, knowledgeable older man with a strong sense of justice and morality. Cheated on his wife for 2 years, while leading on the homewrecker the whole time.

Miyabi: Written the same as Hina. Constantly tries to get into a relationship with a guy who she knows has a girlfriend, going so far as to force a kiss on him and show up to his apartment in lingerie. Contributed to the couple in question breaking up.

Misaki: Written as a good girl, who's lonely and makes (minor) mistakes. Is a literal prostitute, drug dealer AND user, and extremely invasive. The mangaka had Natsuo say VERBATIM "she had no choice but to turn to drugs".

Natsuo: Written as a great person with a strong sense of justice. Literally the worst MC I've ever seen, including the one from Infinite Stratos. Denser than tungsten, leads on multiple women, makes extremely horrible decisions and receives no punishment for them. Ever.

If at any point you read those character descriptions and thought "there's no way the character could be THAT bad," you would be wrong. Believe it or not, they're actually much worse than what I described.

If I could give this garbage a 0/10, I would. But I can't. This is a horrible manga, for horrible people. If you're at all like me, this manga will put you into a deep depression and an unbelievable amount of white-hot rage. If I could go back in time and erase this trash from my memory, I would.

Domestic na Kanojo review
!! Beware There are spoilers inside !!

Domestic Girlfriend is a title pointing everything on playing with your emotions. There is literally no other value in it. Some hentai have a better story and life values than this. The author clearly has no idea of what loving a person means, and has no idea about how to write a story. She spends hundreds of chapters giving us what is supposed to be her view of world/relationships and then ends with a conclusion that negates completely everything she's written before, trashing every character development there should have been.
She just uses the characters as plot items without any coherence to their history and experiences. Actions have no consequences, or worse, bad actions are rewarded. She tries to force on the reader what the reader should get from a situation, even if showing something that is completely different from what she’s telling.Like the author is telling Hina is completely selfless when her actions tell the exact opposite. And here’s that Hina is doing a “sacrifice” after what for the law was a sexual assault on a minor, even if it was the only thing she could do for avoiding scandal and jail. After manipulating that minor in believing that “dying together” is the rightful foundation of love. Or telling us what she’s doing is “love” when it’s clearly “need” and in fact she behaves like what in a serious work would have been called a stalker or at least an obsessed woman (she only sees natsuo as a no-defect person she puts on a pedestal), but here we are told it’s “pure love”. She is the cause of all her suffering (apart for the Tanabe case), and for me it's impossible to have sympathy for someone who uses her suffering and submissivity as means of gaining attention. Like the fact she is uncapable to say “no” to Natsuo, because loving someone for the author means agreeing to everything he does without an ounce of self-respect. As a girl, I can tell one thing: there is nothing likeable about her apart her tits. Or you you still live in a cave and all you want in life is a submissive woman (which generally end with getting none) Gross.
The other characters are bad as well, with Rui behaving like a schizophrenic, sometimes acting responsably and truly loving and other times it’s not understandable at all. The author wants to tell us she's more "selfish" than her sister and sometimes she act that way but but frankly the only true selfless actions I can SEE are done by her and not Hina. At least she is not a “yes woman” (and love must say "no" sometimes) and takes responsibility for her actions. Except that she ens taking even the responsibility for her sister’s actions (saying her sister loved her and Natsuo, when it is shown many that Hina only wants to get back with Natsuo with no consideration at all for her sister’s feelings, and Hina never admits her problems or issues). Except she is not responsible at all towards her daughter, putting an unborn child in one of the most disastrous family situations ever.
The worst of all is Natsuo – Sasuga tries to tell us that he’s a good guy. But he’s not. He’ starts as an irresponsible selfish liar and ends like that. We are told he should have learned what love means (taking care of each other) with Rui but he does not show any true caring except on the material plane after that. I.e. he does not care at all about communicating with Hina or about her giving up her dreams, or her attitude even after the wedding.
The ending is probably the worst I’ve seen – ever - : after telling on Hina’s face he lovs Rui, after swearing on his mother’s tomb Rui is the one for him, he changes idea because Hina forced her actions on them. When he already knows she loved him.
Things going :

1) Several people: Hina loves you!
2) Natsuo: but I love Rui, I am happy I am having a child with her because she’s the right one for me
3) Car crash
4) Several people: Hina loves you!
5) Natsuo flips a switch
6) Natsuo: I always loved Hina, fuck the child’s mental sanity, Rui was never the one for me
7) Everyone; yes, you’re right, you’re such a good guy and a good father even if you cry in front of a child for a woman who is not her mother, and when she is 10 she will go away from home and you don’t care at all, but in the meanwhile you egoistically kept your ex and your daughter near you for these ten years just to show how a good guy you are. Mind blowing.

It’s such a level of mental gymnastic that it’s unbelievable someone could like that. But it seems there are people like that. For them, if you genuinely liked this ending, I sincerely want to give you the advice to seek immediately a therapist.

As a conclusion, I just watched the latest Gigguk’s video with the interview and it only confirmed to me that Kei Sasuga is someone who has a completely distorted view of love and people in general even if she makes beautiful drawings. But this work is utter trash and no beautiful picture can save it.

Domestic na Kanojo review
Discretion advised. Spoilers ahead.
______
The difficulty in talking about "Domestic na Kanojo" is the effectiveness with which it can disarm the reader into believing that socially problematic relationships can be understood in terms of good people who are trying their best to be themselves and to help others, regardless of whether these others need help or not. That it can do this is indicative of the skill the author indubitably possesses, but the reason why she is doing it is never made entirely clear.

To say that I did not enjoy "Domestic na Kanojo" would be completely dishonest of me. Having spent the last week finishing all of the chapters in a delirious state, to the point where I could not stop reading until long past my bedtime, all I have left to say is that this might imply something deeply shameful about my preferences. The number of times the plot contrivances came together to portray a family where step-siblings have sex with each other, are attracted to each other, and where the parents are left clueless about the most of what is happening, however, does indicate the possibility of one of several points the author is trying to make. What bothers me most is what the point actually is, given that this series has not ended and, I am sure, will not end for another five years, given the general structure of the manga.

"What point can there be to a manga like this?" you may rightfully ask. Well, so far, I have been able to infer only three possibilities: that the manga is an indictment of the nuclear family model, that the manga pushes the boundaries of acceptable media when the premises are wholeheartedly borrowed from what are otherwise considered hentai, or that there is no point and that the manga is blatantly using tropes with proven to evoke emotional responses from the readers. At the service of these teleological readings of the manga, we have what I will call, at the risk of sounding potentially racist (given the generalisation this term implies), "Japaneseisms"- highly Japan-specific socio-cultural expressions, as seen in the number of times people insist that they'll do their best to achieve the smallest of goals (no matter how stupid or illogical the pursuit might be), pine about youth and how great it must feel to be one (so that you can vicariously experience it through these characters, no matter the trauma actual youth might experience were they to be in this situation), or not barge in somebody else's business (despite how doing so might have saved these characters a lot of trouble later down the line).

The difficulties related to reorganising a family where the parents marry after their children have already hit puberty and the constant access they have to each other, living in the same house as the people one is attracted to, can be so significant as to tear families apart once something like this comes out in the open. The fact that it didn't (or, more accurately, that it did and still could not) suggests that the people involved in the story who are aware of the relationship not only present a sort of surreal reality where friends don't find this taboo but, at the same time, encourage both the characters in such a relationship (and, by extension, the reader's connection with them) when it would have been much more socially appropriate to put a stop to it.

The fact that no law exists preventing such relationships developed within the same house leading to children exacerbates the situation these reorganised families exist in, and the manga espouses this point very strongly in the beginning of the series. Obviously, there are a lot of attempts that the characters make to come back to their senses, leaving this house, but they all fail because the manga does not want the characters to forget what they did so easily and, consequently, reveals that the characters are ripe for melodramatic exploitation. Is the teacher/step-sister going to realise that her teacher didn't have sex with her while she was still in school because he was acting like a professional? Nope. Natsuo keeps coming on to her, and this emotional wreck of a woman can't help herself return this kid's feelings.

"But there are other characters who also have feelings for their teachers, right?" Indeed. But, and this is important, they are all women, not men. There isn't another guy like Natsuo in their high school who is prone to worrying about his loved ones and trying to take care of them. Why is he so special? The answer is that this is the explanation given by most Japanese writers who wish to explain why a large coterie of girls are consistently interested in one guy. The guy is always capable of making things right, and the girls all have issues that just this one guy is oh-so capable of dealing with. If this is the case, why wouldn't both of his step-sisters in this family not want to have the guy all for themselves? He is passionate to the older one, and just too considerate for the younger one.

Obviously, there are caveats that suggest otherwise. The characters try to push people away from them in order to pull their minds away from thinking about how much they want to bone the other. But the characters are never prepared to completely get over these feelings. Nor are they prepared to openly explain their relationship to their parents, something that would have definitively changed the dynamics of this situation from cute to realistic. For all the amount of worrying Natsuo allegedly does, he never considers the amount of pain he is potentially inflicting upon his father and his step-mother. The pain is there, since his step-mother begins to question the nature of Hina, the elder "sister", and Natsuo. And he is the one who is supposed to be emotionally stable- Hina is an idiot who cannot keep her emotions in check when it comes to either her profession or her new family, while Rui, the younger one, is callous, because she can lie effectively without thinking twice about what she is doing, jealous, given how Natsuo seems incapable of quitting Hina initially (which she finds attractive), and suspicious, as she got second-pickings and worries that Natsuo might fall for another women, of which there are several for him to choose from.

As to whether the manga is a genre innovator, the fact that the manga tries to justify what are essentially doujinshi and hentai premises can also be put forward. It is almost similar to the idea of James Gunn's PG Porn, for those who like everything about porn except the sex. The justification for these premises are to be found in the long-running traditions of doujinshi and hentai, which feature people in these situations. Consequently, by combining rote melodrama with what you would otherwise find yourself reading right before you get to the "good stuff" to touch yourself to, this manga is accomplishing something that even the hentai or doujinshi don't bother with- legitimising sexual relationships between step-siblings.

The people who get to know of the relationship Natsuo has had with his step-sisters don't chastise him enough to find him repulsive or to realise that he has gone this far simply because he was not told this was potentially wrong before. While explicitly sexual representations of such relationships don't comment upon whether these relationships are okay, and, if they do, suggest that they aren't okay but are "illicit fun", the relationships portrayed here suggest that those who cannot accept this relationship are not capable of thinking about it from the couple's point of view and are, therefore, close-minded. Obviously, there are people who do engage in step-sibling relationships in real-life, but the number of times their close friends, family or acquaintances would call them out on this is certainly much higher than the one time a girl who likes Natsuo called him "immoral" after he came clean about having screwed both his elder and younger step-sisters.

Of course, the sex is not explicitly presented. The genitals are never rendered clearly, and the "ecchi" situations are to be found in other manga as well. And I am aware that the manga that do discuss topics of sexual relationships between step-siblings are not known for featuring large casts of supporting characters. But we have to understand that the large supporting cast never acts like it represents how members of society might actually act when they are confronted with this knowledge (unless all Japanese youngsters know about the difficulties and problems related to having feelings and sexual relationships with step-siblings, something that I am deeply sceptical about). The point is that, while in the other manga, the characters ostensibly acted like high school characters, they don't here. Also, even if the sex is not explicit, the manga does show it in the .5 chapters, which holds tone and the direction of the whole manga.

The most cynical point this manga can potentially espouse is that there is no point to all of this. The drama is hokey, the characters archetypal to the point of being stereotypical, the situations and premises already dealt with in countless other series, and this manga just so happens to be a combination of all of these manga. There is no grand point, the manga had to move copies and show the work of one Sasuka Kei, a highly talented, if deviant, manga artist. If this is the case, we find ourselves looking into the abyss of capitalist realism, where the notion of family ethics can be blatantly abandoned without any real care in the world without trying to contextualise it within an acceptable framework. This leads to the attitude where it doesn't matter what the content of the manga is so much as the number of people prepared to read it, and if they get to develop a context of their own rather than having to deal with the context in which the creative work functions within, all the better.

This is the only point where finding counter-points is much harder for me. This might indicate my dedication to this specific reading of the manga, but, at the same time, it also indicates how easy it is to look at it from this point of view and ask another set of difficult questions. Who is this manga really for? What are they to gain from it?

I could go on, of course, looking at Natsuo's attraction towards an older woman as an attempt to fulfil his Oedipal needs, or at the intensity of Rui's feelings for Natsuo as a consequence of dealing with, and resolving, in a socially unacceptable manner, her own Oedipal complexes (that's right, folks; traditional Freudian psychoanalysis does not have an Electra complex), but I believe that, for now, this discussion into why "Domestic na Kanojo" has been something that I spent the last week obsessing over is something that I want to be able to have closure over. This is not to say that I will not be following the chapters as they keep coming. Just that there is very little that I want right now than to stop misinterpreting messages my lady friends send me as being flirtatious. The world is more complex than that presented here. I'm so looking forward to going back to being an ugly, rude loser.

Domestic na Kanojo review
Looking at the synopsis of Domestic girlfriend you must be wondering, this is a perfect plot for a threesome hentai and bingo!!!! You are correct this is an erotic manga, though most people might deny it, it is one.

Just like everyone after seeing the first episode of anime, I got curious and started reading the manga just whether to continue to watch anime or not after. But after 24 hours I'm in chapter 200, with a vision of writing a review.

There is a saying that looking for a plot in hentai is really stupid, but in fact, this has one, just like every other romance manga (like Nana) where MC is in love triangle and has a problem in selecting whom without hurting the other. I would say that the story isn't great or anything if you look at it from a shoujo/romance manga's point of view, in fact, it has a storyline like that of milking money out of a weak plot. But if you look at from the hentai point of view, I would say it has a more realistic scenario than most hentai.

I'll stop here about the pros and cons and dive into what the overall plot is with minor spoiler (which aren't spoilers but just my opinion):

From all the chapters I've read I can understand where this manga is going, Basically it looks like any other harem story where MC is a nice person and all the girls start falling for him, but I think it's all just to keep the plot going as the main objective is that MC must love both step-sisters and eventually marry both of them and happily live ever after.

But what I liked the most was, it tackles some realistic topics like the competition in the literary world, the marketing techniques etc (of course being an author is easy to write it as being acquainted) which is what I liked in Nana(manga) which deals with the music industry.

Coming to character development:
Well, character development of the 3 MCs is good. In fact, like many mentioned it started out great in early chapters but with the cast growing enormously it was obviously difficult to concentrate on everyone, so that's a major drawback but of course why would anyone want to observe this in a hentai.

Rui: She is the younger step sister who is like the cute dense waifu character who has weak (wrong) communication skills but manages to get what she wants as she expresses without being shy. I personally vouch for her.

Hina: She is the older sister who is like the cheerful ideal girlfriend who gets hurt while trying to meet the expectations of people while suppressing her own feeling. I like her as she is just like me who is a bit realistic and mature in thinking. (but I personally like Rui over her)

Natsuo: He is a writer and an ideal harem kingu but I kinda liked his character (though I hate a harem MC) as he is actually aware of his surroundings and acts accordingly unlike some Mc’s who kiss their girlfriend in front of other crush or give in to seductions by cheating on their present girlfriend. Although he starts out immature but in the long run, you could see him handle things well.

Other characters are basically there to either break or make the relationship possible between MC and either of the two sisters.

Some people might be offended thinking that incest is being involved but the MC is acquainted with both the sisters way before their parents marry and they aren’t even related by blood so I think there is nothing wrong with the plot. The jokes are handled well, not too much exaggeration but not too hilarious either, but it has really good irritating plot twists which keep the story interesting.

Well sorry for writing such a long review for a hentai, overall it wasn’t a trash, but it’s a good hentai with some realistic elements. Just read it for erotic pleasure, it doesn’t deal with any life teaching topics, it’s just your normal soap opera with twists at the end of every chapter. It’s worth the time if you willing to read an erotic manga :)

P.S: Did I mention the words erotic and hentai too many times, well I''m sorry :P

Domestic na Kanojo review
Enjoyment:

I've been reading manga for 16 years; more than half my life. I have never been more invested in a story. 12 weeks after binging the series in 2 days, I finally joined the subreddit yesterday, a first for me. There are more than 9500 other subscribers who want to talk about it. I've never before cared that others experience the same art as me. Domestic na Kanojo is exactly that, it's an experience that you share with the characters.

Binging it seems pretty common, many threads say they read the now 226 chapters in 2 or 3 days.

Art:

The visual art is beautiful but a picture speaks a thousand words. See for yourself.

Character:

The characters grow and change over the years of the manga. They become more mature over time and strive to achieve their changing goals. They grow because of each other and they grow at different rates and in different directions relative to each other. Life is messy and they try to make the best of it.

Story:

The use of time is masterful. Sometimes big changes happen. They can take you by surprise. Grief, denial, frustration and hope turn to acceptance as time takes it's toll. I found myself experiencing the same feelings as the characters at the same time that they did.

The love in the manga shows the importance of both selfishness and selflessness in relationships. Where too much of either in partners causes unhealthy relationships or ends them entirely.

Some characters are more independent by nature and others more dependent. Codependent relationships and interdependent relationships happen, sometimes within the same couple at different stages of the relationship.

While everyone will have their favorite characters I think most agree that we want all of them to be happy in the end.

Anyway I don't want to oversell it by setting high expectations for people that it may not live up to. But this was my experience.

Check out Gigguk's Domestic Girlfriend: A Dumpster Fire I Can't Stop Watching on YouTube for a fun review on both the anime and the manga. It will probably give you a better headspace and more realistic expectations before actually reading the story.

Domestic na Kanojo review
A Small and a final edit after completing the manga 276 chapters/ and the extra ones.

The final few chapters of this manga were mind blowing for me, I already started to imagine the ending for this manga in my mind, but then everything turned upside down, it was unexpected turn in the manga, which gave us this unexpected ending, I didn't like the ending at all to be honest , It was like all the story and the characters development that started from chapter 1 were destroyed in 5 chapters, But still I enjoyed this manga for more than 265 chapter and Im not going to change my mind because of the bad ending it had,
So again this was my opinion from previous year and It didn't change, the story is not the best part in this manga, and this was proved to me more in this ending.

This is the My full Review after 265 chapters:

First of all this my first time reading a romance manga, and so I decided that my first review in this site should be about it.

First,I believe that the story in Domestic na kanojo its not its greatest point, well its good but I felt that there was a lot of events that happened shouldn't be included, it was like repeating the same thins again and again but with different characters, some love stories shouldn't be in the manga it made seem repetitive and boring, at least this is what I think.

Moving to the characters, oh my god the characters in this manga are more than awesome I mean the developing of each individual character, there separate feelings and emotions, their background stories, the way that the writer change your view and felling about anyone in the story from love to hate to love again, the variety of feeling, ways of thinkings, appearances and more, made each character in the manga main or supporting worth reading about.

In the end, I enjoyed this manga very much and for everyone who is reading my review, I would like from you to give this manga a chance.

Domestic na Kanojo review
(Save yourself the time, and DO NOT read)

This manga was a trip, but one that I got hooked on fast. It was the perfect blend of romance and drama (and ecchi), and was enjoyable given the weird situation. It had it's ups and downs, but ultimately started to come out on top as one of my favorites. That is, until the dumpster fire hit.

It was really starting to get wholesome and fulfilling towards the end, and there was a clear way to end this manga (not because of what the majority of readers wanted, but because the character development was leading directly towards this perfect ending). It was all going so smooth, until the writer decided to throw away 250+ chapters of character development down the drain. And for what?....Fate?.....Personal preference?......Deadlines?.....Laziness??? Your guess is as good as mine. Not only did the ending implode on itself, but it was done in such a half-assed way, that even the ones who wanted "that" ending didn't enjoy it. It did it NO justice.

There are a few people who are constantly defending it, saying "It was the journey, not how it ended". The problem with saying that, is that it's hard to enjoy the great journey and story that the writer built when ALL of it was burnt to the ground when the finish line was a few feet away. One person on the subreddit made a great analogy when they stated "It's hard to enjoy the meal, when the last bite is a spoonful of peppercorns".

I do not condone the harassment of the author for writing such a terrible ending, but she should (at the very least) be made aware that it was a terrible ending. If you did a piss poor job, improve on it. Don't just stand idly by, evading everyone's opinion. Use it to better yourself AND your next work (should you ever consider writing something ACTUALLY good). Just don't let it get to you.
